I don't mean the same actual dream recurring but subjects. Mine are:

Lifts. Inside, going very fast, up or down and often sideways!
On a ship in rough seas.
Aeroplane crashes.
Snakes.
Fish in clear water.
Parents, both now long gone.
Friends from years or decades ago.
Our old family dentists. The detail is different every time but essentially the same theme.

Quite a mix!

I get the teeth one as well. And the telephone one. And the toilet one - that usually means I need to go!
Also walking barefoot over hard or stony ground and being naked in public. Strangely I never feel that self-conscious about the latter. I must have no shame!

I have one where I have forgotten I'm taking A Level History. I have an exam or coursework deadline approaching and I haven't been to any of the lessons.

I left school 15yrs ago and loved History and did pretty well in it. I wonder what my teacher would make of me still getting about it now....

PalpatinesCalcetines · 06/04/2025 19:14

When I was in my late teens, my recurring dream themes were low flying aircraft and people holding onto mirrors.

That I really need the toilet but every toilet I find is unusable. It’s either filthy or not private.

Another one is that my teeth have moved and become really crooked.

I also have the exact same dreams about toilets

BeyondtheBeyond · 06/04/2025 19:22

My two recurring dreams are that I have an exam coming up that I haven’t studied or prepared for.
Second dream is I find rooms in my house that I didn’t know was there or a house I didn’t know I owned.
They always need lots of work doing on them.

I have a reoccurring dream. I had it the other day.

I’m studying for e.g. a degree. I am struggling with the maths, I don’t understand it, so I skip the lectures. I’m coming up to exam and I know I’m going to fail the course because I hid from the maths, buried my head in the sand. Plus I realise that I’ve started to revise for all exams too late.

I always wake up thinking “oh fuck” then realise it’s not really true.

I’d love an explanation of this although I kind of get the gist.

Edited

This is so common with me.

Other than that - Tsunamis, my earliest memory of a dream, always on going. If it is not being swept away by one, it is seeing one coming. I'd say this dream has been happening for over 45 years.

TuckedUpInBedWithAPackOfCremeEggs · 06/04/2025 19:30

Packing. Endless packing. Ie trying to pack up after a holiday/to catch a flight/move house and the more I pack more seems to appear. It’s relentless and exhausting

DisplayPurposesOnly · 06/04/2025 19:35

Care of a small mammal (eg hamster or rabbit) that are in some way putting themselves in mild peril (eg I have to catch them and put them back in their pen).

I hoped that getting actual small mammals would change the theme, but no. Still scampering about, cute but at risk.

Then a friend pointed out that they are me, which makes sense.

FlyHighWithTheRightAngles · 06/04/2025 19:58

Sitting an exam without revision.
People/animals that died are alive again.
Being lost or my children being lost.
Going somewhere on holiday but the journey never ends.
Intruder in house.
Being pregnant.
Dating a famous person.
Lost phone.

Rainydaysandwellybobs · 06/04/2025 20:13

My childhood home, specifically my bedroom.
My grandmother, in all situations.
A house, it always looks different but I know it's the same house and I point that out to myself in my dream.
Hundreds of fish in tanks.
Lastly and most bizarrely, dinosaurs! Doing all sorts, in towns and the countryside!

Hopealong · 06/04/2025 20:15

Another who has regular tsunami dreams.
My other regular one is that I have to be somewhere, work/catch a plane, but things just keep frustrating me from acheiving it.

Find it so fascinating that we have these common themes

Loyaltyplease · 06/04/2025 20:26

I’ve bought a new house and only when I move in I realise it’s absolutely huge with rooms that still have lots of very expensive furniture and ornaments etc in it.

Im staying in a hotel and I’ve forgotten where my room is. I keep looking for my room, using the lift to go to various floors hoping to find something that looks familiar.

Im in a plane but it never takes off properly. Just drives down streets, I can see the airport I need to land in in the distance but the plane is frustratingly slow to get there.

A village / town that is now being really familiar (I go there regularly) there’s a lot of residential streets in a hill that winds down to a shopping area in one side and on the other side of the hill is a street that leads to a beach in one side and a harbour on the other.
The beach can either be desolate or some days like a tropical beach where people are sunbathing and swimming. There’s a chemical works on the other side of the beach estuary.

SquashedMallow · 06/04/2025 20:30

Something dangerous happening to my children and I can't get to them (like falling under water) it makes me all panicky just thinking about it.

Another common repetitive one is I'm driving but I'm almost laying down in the driver's seat. My feet are miles away from the pedals, tiptoes only really on them, and I'm driving erratically and at speed and I literally can't control the car (or barely see out of the windscreen because I'm almost laying down !!)

TheLadyIsAVamp · 06/04/2025 20:48

I love things like this, I find it so interesting. I've always had very vivid dreams.

One of my very regular dreams is in I'm in some kind of situation and my cats have escaped/are lost. Both my cats are black cats and in my dreams there are hundreds of black cats and I'm desperately searching for mine amongst them. Sometimes I find them, sometimes I don't. Never understood what that one means.

I am estranged from my sister I went through a period of regularly dreaming that she was addicted to heroin and had abandoned her kids and disappeared. Definitely not the case at all but I guess this stems from us having absolutely no relationship and me having no relationship with her kids and my guilt surrounding that.

I also have regular dreams about losing family members, people close to me. I live at the other side of the country from my family and most of my friends so I guess that's related to that.

Last night I had a dream my abusive ex committed suicide in a church, somehow in the dream it had been communicated to me it was my current partner who had died and in the dream I bumped into my partner on the street whilst I thought he was dead. No idea what that means either.

I too regularly have dreams of unusable toilets and teeth crumbling.

When I was a child I had a dream my sister was an old man who had shape shifted and was trying to eat me 😂. That one was explained by the fever when I came out in pox the following day.

ItsCalledAConversation · 06/04/2025 20:53

Packing/tasks preparing for a flight. There’s always too much to pack/too many tasks to fit in before the plane. Always a terrible sense of urgency.

Moving house - the new place is always huge with tons of rooms full of others people’s old shit but I have a hopeful sense of potential in these dreams.

A kind man. I have dreamed about men for as long as I can remember. Sometimes people I know, sometimes random dream-men who are kind and sexy and funny.

ttcnumerodos · 06/04/2025 21:12

I have a few. Regularly dream about being in a hotel, with a variety of friends/family.
Quite often dream about being late for my friend's wedding (I was her bridesmaid 6 years ago)
Also have a recurring dream that I'm nearing the end of my degree and haven't done the required work. The fear!

Pallisers · 06/04/2025 21:13

I'm Irish so I get the leaving cert dream regularly

Teeth and heights.

I had a lovely one last night - the dream where you discover a whole load of new rooms in your house. In this one they were filled with stuff too. I love that dream.

LittleMissLateForWorkAgain · 06/04/2025 21:40

The toilet one where I m desperate to go and they are all locked or in bad state or people can see in I get that a lot.

Another one has versions of work stress, that I m running really late and wake up at 4 pm too late to go. Also a version where I just don't go to work and I don't phone in sick and weeks go by.

Then one day I go back to work but my badge won't open the door and when I get to my classroom there's someone else there and I have been fired. No idea why as in 17 years in this job I have hardly missed a day and if I m off sick I have always called in!

This one annoyed me as in the latest version I got to my classroom and there was an old man teaching who said "who are you?"
I said "Miss K, this is my class"
And he said "not anymore. My name is Mr Stanley and I m the new teacher".

Mr Stanley does not exist but I woke up hating him and hating my brain for making up a non existent person to stress me out!

I often have a driving dream where I know I shouldn't take this road as it gets the sea all over it but I do (in reality the road is in Hertfordshire!)

And the house swap ones. We exchanged houses with a family over 20 years ago and now and then I dream we swap back then swap again. It's exhausting.

Norugratsatall · 06/04/2025 21:50

Yes to lots of these…

being unprepared for an exam
needing the loo but every one I find is either filthy or not private
dreaming about my dead parents especially Mum. But in these dreams she’s somehow not quite contactable, elusive and distant
dreaming I’m back at old places of work
having sex with a gorgeous yet weirdly faceless guy
Wandering about topless! Being aware of this and self conscious about it but nobody else seems to notice
driving and losing control of the car
dreaming I’m pregnant (I’m far too old now) and waking up feeling bereft!
finding rooms in my house I was unaware existed
moving house but hating new house!
packing/needing to be somewhere but not being able to get there

Im sure there’s more.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 06/04/2025 21:58

I quite regularly have dreams about my ex - usually he just features in them and occasionally I’m still with him, which I absolutely hate in the dream. And I’m so, so relieved when I wake up!! He was abusive.

Another theme is houses. One where we move back to our last house, one where I lived when my eldest was a baby/toddler and I hated it - was a bad time in my life at times. I’m also very relieved when I wake up from that one.

Eyerollexpert · 06/04/2025 22:10

I have the back with the ex dreams(2 different ex's) All the way through the dreams I am thinking how the f did I let myself get back in this mess😂

CookingFatCat · 07/04/2025 00:48

Whatever dream I’m having, I can’t get my mobile phone to work. I need to text or call somebody urgently but I type in numbers, names and the phone just won’t do what I need it to.
Another one is in whatever the dream scenario, I can’t walk, I try to but can’t put one foot in front of the other, as though they are bound but aren’t.

blueshoes · 07/04/2025 01:08

If I have a recurring dream, it is always the eve before an important exam and I have just realised I have not revised at all. Cue blind panic.

I see many people have the same dream of not having revised for an exam. Our education system seems to have traumatised many of us.

blueshoes · 07/04/2025 01:13

When I was younger, I used to dream that I had a baby and needed to put it down. So left it next to a tree. Then went off and did other things and suddenly realised I could not find the baby despite desperately searching for it. Never had that dream again since I had dcs.

Another one was marrying someone I did not want to. It was the wedding ceremony with everyone present and I was screaming silently in my head 'no'. Again, never had that dream again since I married dh.

TadpolesInPool · 07/04/2025 01:22

My teeth are falling out.

Same as PPs with dirty toilet or where people can see me. Always just before I wake up bursting to go.

I'm claustrophobic and often dream of being in a room with the walls and ceiling slowly closing in on me and shouting and kicking on the walls. I'm usually sleep moving/shouting with that one as poor DH can attest.

I used to be a competitive swimmer and I often dream that I dive in for my race before the previous one has finished, getting in 1 or more people's way and getting everyone disqualified.

I'm flying but can't control it and go higher and higher until I fall.

I'm a very restless sleeper and have sleepwalked more times than I can count, sometimes even ending up outside. I hate it. Unfortunately both my DC have seemed to inherit it...
