I am increasingly finding it very difficult to get decent information from the internet about travel choices and activities. A lot of content is AI or influencer generated, or tied in with tout/crawler-enabling sites like getyourguide. I used to always get lonely planet books when I was younger and they were great, but I looked at a few recently and they're just the same as what's available the internet - lots of pictures; not much guidance. Which paper guidebooks would you recommend?

We’ve used DK ones recently, they’re not bad.

I used to love Rough Guides and LP but things change. A lot of good info can be found on fbk etc for specific groups of the countries / areas you want to visit. I joined Australia and New Zealand ones for current holiday. Get your Guide is great for ideas but try and book through the activity provider rather than GyG. Each city / country will have a tourist info place online and then when you get there go into the physical info centres.
Also remember that physical guidebooks may not always be updated that often.

I usually use Lonely Planet wherever I go. They rarely fail me tbh. Only occasionally when they are out of date and things have closed. DK has nice pictures and the walking tours are useful in European cities.
