Which sun cream for teenage boys first boys trip

So I'm putting together a bundle for DSs birthday of things he will need for his first festival with girlfriend and first boys trip abroad in the summer

I need a sun cream that will not be embarrassing (think Nivea kids I tried to get him to use last year) or too sticky and annoying that he won't wear it and fairly fool proof as I can't imagine he will be too diligent in application.

Are they flying? And if so are they just taking carry on? This will affect how much liquids they can take anyway. But you could do a Boots pick up order. apart from that, something waterproof, and non sticky. Think Nivea do a spray fitting that criteria. If it’s in Europe factor 30 at the very least.

Flying but checked bags so volume not an issue. It's Cyprus and he's blond hair blue eyed so I was thinking factor 50.

I have used many own brand suncreams as they often have better star ratings than branded. Boots, superdrug, even supermarket own brand have worked well.

I suggest P20 sunscreen. It is a once a day application- might need topping up if swimming lots, but it’s great.

Mulledjuice · 05/04/2025 18:50

Google "clear spray sunscreen spf 50" there are various

Baboutheocelot · 05/04/2025 18:52

We like coola, it’s not greasy at all and has a lovely smell.

EffortlesslyDecluttering · 05/04/2025 18:52

What does he use in this country? Get that in F50, make sure its waterproof if the holiday is beach/pool. My two both had firm preferences by this age. One likes the Ambre solaire aerosol ones, the other prefers unfragranced lotions. I prefer yet another type so we end up with lots of them.

Vodkamartini3olives · 05/04/2025 18:59

Coppertone sport spf 50 & SunBum spf 50 are very popular with my teens.

90swildchild · 05/04/2025 19:06

Another vote for P20, amazing stuff!

SuperLuxuriousOmnidirectionalWhatchamajigger · 05/04/2025 19:07

I’d get a spray on one and a facial one for his face because of a normal one makes his face like an oil slick he might not put it on.

RobinEllacotStrike · 05/04/2025 22:04

Skinnies F50.

Tiredpigeon · 05/04/2025 22:54

Lifejacket - marketed for men to prevent skin cancers. It's amazing stuff and not at all sticky. My red headed son managed not to get burned once despite travelling round Europe for 3 weeks in August and not being very diligent at applying it!

2chocolateoranges · 05/04/2025 22:59

We use Boots Soltan, reasonably priced and has a good protection level.

dd is very pale skinned and has never burned while wearing this cream.

lochmaree · 05/04/2025 23:22

P20!

Hercisback1 · 05/04/2025 23:23

P29 ruins clothes if not applied properly, which is likely with teens.

Ultrasun is expensive but good. One application last a a day and no ruined clothes.

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 06/04/2025 01:06

Your main issue is probably going to be whether your son remembers to actually apply it. I would go with the once a day stuff.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 06/04/2025 01:12

Once a day like P20 or Ulteasun but it needs to dry to be effective and if he wears white/light colours it can stain.
Ears, shoulders, back of neck ,hairline , nose you can get a facial one

Ginmonkeyagain · 06/04/2025 01:28

Boots Soltan do a good clear spray one. Easy to use and not too greasy.

Pandimoanymum · 06/04/2025 01:53

The only thing with the once-a-day P20 types is that if they miss a bit when applying, that's it; that bit is going to get really burned. They're not going to be re-applying it later on, so they need to be really meticulous with it.
I like the Nivea factor 30 invisible spray, it's not greasy at all and works well. It's also on offer quite often in Boots or supermarkets. I'm a fair skinned redhead and it works fine for me.

2chocolateoranges · 06/04/2025 11:51

I personally think these once a day sunscreens make people complacent when it comes to sun damage.

What if ypu miss a bit or what if you only apply it once but you've been in the water or rubbed a bit off, you'll end up getting burned.

At least with normal Suntan lotion you are reapplying it every 3 hours or so.

BashfulClam · 06/04/2025 11:58

We used the boots Soltan spray last year and not burnt at all. It’s also really easy to apply as you just spray it on. No greasy hands etc.

Yes, P20 is brilliant.
