DS 18th gift

What is the norm these days ? Several of his friends have cars they got for birthday but we simply can't afford it. Maybe for 21st but they're £££ and we don't have those funds.
I'm interested to hear what average family income folks get their kids for their 18th.
I don't want him to be disappointed but can't spend loads either. A few hundred not thousand is my budget.
I realise I'm provided to even be able to do this but don't want him feeling less than or other. I've already joked with friends they've set the bar too high !!

We bought ours a watch. He loves it.

We did 18 presents with the top present being jewellery or a watch worth £2-300 that they chose, on a day out with lunch.
The other presents ranged from v cheap (fav chocolate/jar of nutella) to a couple at £50/60 - pair of vans/ designer tshirt

We got eldest DS a laptop, he was heading to uni and it was a practical gift. For his 21st last year he got a watch.

I gave my DD an omega watch, weekend in Venice and a beautiful aspinal travel wallet with the hotel/flight details inside. Also did a couple of those multi picture photo friends filled with memories of her childhood. I had saved for a long time!

Budget of 500 and they could choose. First son had the money. Daughter had a diamond ring and last son still to hit the milestone.

I am a great believer on working for things themselves so wouldn't buy a teenager a car.

A printed photo album, and a trip.

I love you 3000 Etsy bracelet. Masculine looking so fine. (iron Man reference). Think Pandora have them too, unisex.

We preferred buying experiences over things, so maybe consider something he might like to do? Or see?

I gave my son a personalised number plate. Cost me just shy of £500 for a really cool, relevant plate. He loved it. It's a present for life!
