How tired are you?

About me: mum of two (ages 2 and 6), work part time as a nurse (3 days/week, outpatients), DH an active partner and does lots round the home, but we have no other help (no local family, no regular nanny or babysitter-not in the budget), no cleaner, and I’m KNACKERED. Had a stressful week at work recently, had to do extra hours, and a round of stomach flu that got all four of us. 2 yo didn’t start sleeping through until nearly her 2nd bday and I had terrible pregnancy insomnia with her. So a good 2.5 years of not rubbish sleep.

this week I’ve fallen asleep every night on the sofa watching telly (befor3 10pm) or even in bed with my clothes on whilst texting with a friend. Is this normal? Do other people feel this knackered when their kids are so little? Had bloods done a year ago and no anaemia or thyroid issues.

Has it just been this week? Or is it the norm?

I’m a single, FT working parent of a 5yo and after 3 years of SHIT sleep and managing on autopilot, I now need 7 hours of sleep to operate or I randomly start crying during the day - I’ll also fall asleep texting if I’m not in bed by 10:30 or so 😂 Never did that before. I just figure it’s because I’m still in the trenches.

I work 3 days and my 2.5 year old still wakes once in the night (or more while these molars are coming through)... But as I've had insomnia for a large proportion of my life I'm used to being tired!

My three year old wakes and comes into our bed every night. Then he throws himself about so I’m on high alert of him launching himself out of the bed.

I’m fucking exhausted.

and, currently I have a pounding headache. I know you didn’t ask but I’m feeling sorry for myself.

@FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee yes I also suffer from migraines and they can be quite debilitating. Had my period week before last and a three day migraine along with it, not exactly restful!

@Bodonka yes I also need several hours, at least seven or I’m like a broken wire. It’s dire. I am not single and DH works from home, except for when he works away (30-40% of the time). I know it’s not anything like being on your own but it is difficult to juggle such little ones with work and not having an extra set of hands.
