Changing my eating to sugar free - trying to go 30 days and beyond.

Does anyone want to join me in this? Has anyone done this successfully? If so, how did you get on?
My parents both had Alzheimer’s and Vascular Dementia. I am keen to try and avoid this if possible. Since Alzheimers is becoming known as Type 3 Diabetes I figure that cutting out sugar and refined carbs would be a good thing for me. I’m doing it more from a health point of view but hoping to lose some weight along the way too. So far, I have lost 2lbs in one day without feeling hunger pangs, cravings while eating plenty of food. It will be interesting to see if I lose any more.

I'm interested to see how you get on. I say I'm giving up but ate a pack of jelly snakes yesterday and a few toffees today so I'm just taking the piss. I had about 5 successful days and I started to feel lighter and more alert but the cravings were still coming and I failed. But I'm going to keep trying and hopefully find my focus again. Good luck!

thanks@dontletmedownbruce
It’s my 2nd day in and I’ve lost another lb so 3lbs over the two days. I’m not craving sugary things so far but by next week I might be climbing the walls and give in. I hope not as I want to quit added sugar for good.

Well I’d lost 4 lbs but today when I stood on the scales I’d put a pound back on. Don’t know why this happened as have been sticking to sugar free exactly!

I can recommend the Second Nature app, but if you don’t fancy downloading it & going the whole hog, one of the first things they recommend is getting rid of any food products in your house which contain sugar. Thereafter, stop buying them. It’s hard when you’ve got DH & children who might not be choosing to give up sugar, but you will be helping them avoid the eat sugar/sugar high/sugar slump/sugar cravings cycle too. Also, many foods with sugar in will be ultra processed and contain trans fats too. Both UPFs & trans fats are best avoided.

You'll find these helpful:

  • The Blood Sugar Solution by Dr Mark Hyman
  • Dr Becky Gillaspy's short talks on YouTube
It takes about 5 days to get on top of the sugar cravings. Much easier if you ban sugar from your house and instead have tasty savoury foods available.

I gave up sugar several months ago and don’t crave sweet things at all now. The first couple of weeks were tough, , I read a lot about metabolic health and the idea of type 3 diabetes, the metabolic mind channel on YouTube is very good. I have lost 2.5 stone but that was an added bonus have mainly done it for future health benefits

FLOWER19833 · 05/04/2025 23:08

Oh please cani join you? I have done it in the past, but the last few months have fallen off the wagon massively and need to rest myself. I am planning to start tomorrow

ShriekingTrespasser · 05/04/2025 23:16
