Money, time + practicality not an issue. What would your business be?

Sort of inspired by my other thread, I've fallen into a posho rabbit hole with the most delightful (very wealthy) people who have the loveliest businesses. Sheep meditating classes, making paint pigments from foraged plants, lampshades out of recycled fabric scraps. All of which seems to pay very well and be very fulfilling and all your rich friends support you and it doesn't feel like work because it's so enjoyable and creative.
I'd have several businesses:

First would be some sort of travel company, like a posho rep but my clients would never demand anything or complain and they'd be really interesting so I'd love spending time with them and they would be friends for life and insist I visit them in their homes all over the world.

I'd also have a small holding with nice animals, probably a few shetland ponies and people would pay me just to run it and in return I'd offer free workshops a few times a year teaching people how to make fabric buntings and everyone would bring along nice homemade cake and lemonade and we'd all have a great time together.

In my free time I'd get paid to visit reading rooms (posho libraries, very nice furnishings with naice traybakes and cake and tea) and in return I'd advise them on the interior design and suggest ways to make it more "cosy".

I'd also do a bit of travel writing, which of course would cover the cost of my worldwide travels and give me some spending money, and the write up of the restaurants/coffee shops would be such an enjoyable experience.

All of the above of course will not interfere with my lifestyle/family/hobbies and I'll have a plunge pool in my (stately home) garden that I'll swim in every morning and ride horses and live a very healthy lifestyle that gives me a very lovely dewy complexion.

Please enlighten me with your lovely business ideas.

I’d look after and ride other people’s horses. Or I’d set up my own studio and teach yoga, Pilates and aerial arts.

I so wish I could do either of or both of those, instead of my actually crappy job 😭.

But you can do both. Maladaptive daydreaming is a wonderful thing!

My business would be a huge centre for people who are a bit lonely. There would be different sections like a room for new mums, one for the elderly, and even a massive garden area for dogs that would otherwise be home alone all day. There would be pods for WFH but shared tea rooms so everyone could still interact. And everyone would be really polite, friendly and respectful of each other.
And free vending machines.

Can I come and work in the room for new mums please @getearnow ? I used to volunteer at NCT Bumps and Babies and loved it. We were always very busy. 😀

Greenblossom · 02/04/2025 20:19

I’d make pretty things things out of Liberty’s fabric. I’d also be a writer and write in my summerhouse and run creative writing workshops and inspire other people to write brilliantly. Also have a beautiful cottage garden with a lake big enough to swim in.

@meditatingwithdolly sheep meditating classes? Please tell us more. No, it's not self explanatory 😂

thinkingofausername · 02/04/2025 20:30

I would be a wedding planner but I'd get full permission to make decisions and not take on any bridezillas.

Or run a riding school.

Or kitchen designer.

Or jigsaw puzzle café.

Meditating with sheep is a real thing!

'I'm a sheep therapist – animals help people at the worst time in their lives'

'Even just hugging them can feel supportive. It’s like snuggling fresh wool'

@meditatingwithdolly thanks

my late father used to say he thought sheep looked cuddly and I must admit I just rolled my eyes! Turns out he was right I guess.

I would have a large manor house, a collection of small cottages suitable with an animal sanctuary, access to multiple theraputic treatments and services to provide respite for families with children that have SEN.
This would double as almost a teaching hospital and I would provide a match making service for specially trained carers and such families where at home respite is more suitable.

Bookshop

Lighthouse

Croft

OttersAreMySpiritAnimal · 02/04/2025 20:52

I'd run retreats in a gorgeous pile in the country. Silent retreats, sleep retreats and meditation & journalling retreats.
I'd also be an amazing architect with a team of minions to do the boring site stuff.

Ginmonkeyagain · 03/04/2025 07:30

@meditatingwithdolly Ha! I grew up on a sheep farm. Sheep are cussed beasts at the best of times and definitely do not like being hugged.

They are also not the most fragrant of animals.

NoviceVillager · 03/04/2025 07:33

A bookshop! I’d host loads of cool events and would also sell wine and chocolate.

CyclingAddict · 03/04/2025 07:43

House renovations, I love seeing the ‘before and after’ transformations. Turning something dark, damp and gloomy to bright, clean and sparkly. I also love the physical effort it takes (working on one now but would love to have another project once this is finished).

AdventureCode · 03/04/2025 07:54

I would run a rambling retreat in the large gardens of my posh but romantic and ever so slightly crumbling just so people don't feel intimidated estate. There would be glamping pods, teepees, old traveller style caravans and rustic cabins dotted around the wild flower meadows for guests to stay in. There'd be hay bales dotted around to gather at where I'd teach pottery, perfume and guitar classes of an evening. There'd be festoon lights everywhere and random free range goats and chickens, we'd drink tea or cocktails and read interesting books just relaxing in the sun.

PenneyFouryourthoughts · 03/04/2025 07:58

A national network of playgrounds for the over 21s. The gym is boring!

Dial-a-pub, the complete pub experience for towns and villages whose pub has closed down. We'll come to a park near you! Optics, beer pumps, crisps, fruit machine, old fella with dog supping in the corner as standard, honest food at honest prices. Also available for private events.

Biomic · 03/04/2025 08:14

Cakey Books. A book shop that also sells cakes. I would have good boy/girl days when people could bring their pets. Everyone could eat cake, read a book and agree that said pets are good girls/boys. The toilets would be pristine.

PoppyBaxter · 03/04/2025 08:26

I'd have a cleaning business, using eco products only and electric vehicles.

iloveeverykindofcat · 03/04/2025 08:31

Cat behaviourist, Jackson Galaxy style. I've always loved and had cats (see username), but last year I accidentally a mostly-Oriental kitten (I thought she was a petite adult moggie) and seriously, integrating her with my extant senior girl is one of my life achievements. I love her very much but to say she's not an easy cat is putting it lightly. It took months and I swear I did the equivalent of an informal degree in cat behaviour. Now I feel like if someone came to me and said "my cats are fighting " or "my cat has behaviour problems" I could go their house, analyze the situation and help them.

LuckyShark · 03/04/2025 08:38

I'd either be a professional reorganiser for the cluttered. But only of posh homes so I get to keep the bits they don't need.

Or an interior decorator where I swan about many many markets all over the world looking for the perfect curio to clutter up very posh houses.

So technically I could do both really.

Out with the old in with the new, if you have a very healthy budget to support my travel and curating skills.

MargoLivebetter · 03/04/2025 09:28

I've had another thought. An incredibly cool nightclub for the over 50s.

It would open at 7pm because we are old and who wants to head to a club after 10pm these days. You'd get a timed entry so that you didn't have to stand in a queue. The toilets would be immaculately clean. There would be lots of different rooms for every different music requirement and a large silent disco space too, so that you bop around with people who liked different things.

There would be a big outside terrace for smokers, which would also be very clean and not grimy and horrible. It would be rain proof and have lovely thick blankets so that if you just fancied sitting outside for a bit, you could do that too.

There would also be a coffee room, so that you could get hot drinks of your choice too, if you fancied a hot chocolate or cup of tea at some point.

Annie Mac does a version of this! Club nights called 'Before Midnight' - for old ravers with kids and jobs 😁

irishbloodenglishparts · 03/04/2025 11:29

Vegan restaurant ina lovely setting with views.

Women only spa- and I mean biological women.

MargoLivebetter · 03/04/2025 11:37

@TokyoKyoto oooooooooh, do you know where? I miss clubbing so much, but I absolutely do not want to do it like I did when I was younger.

GnomeDePlume · 03/04/2025 11:42

Making lovely natural fabric clothes for plus sized women.

I would have a studio room in the garden with lots of natural light. Women would come, be measured, look through books of clothing ideas and different fabrics. I would then make them lovely fitting clothes.

The fabric off-cuts would be used to make quilts.

HorrorFan81 · 03/04/2025 11:43

I'd have a bookshop with lots of squishy armchairs, which turns into a speakeasy a few evenings a week. It will be situated in a beautiful upmarket seaside town and all the furniture and shelving would be made from reclaimed timber. Next door would be my little arthouse cinema which specialises in horror movies and somehow becomes internationally known and indie horror movies ask to have premieres there

Running both of these take roughly 4 hours a day and I have plenty of time for walking along the beach and swimming in the ocean
