How would you deal with this - not picking up dog mess

I go on daily walks near my house. Several times now I have seen a man walking 2 dogs, neither of them on leads. They trail far behind him and he doesn't seem to check on them - guess he trusts that they are following
Three times now I've seen one of the dogs pooing on the path or on the grass just to the side. The guy doesn't see it so doesn't pick it up. Each time he's been too far away for me to easily get his attention

Would you say something next time you see him?

Wait to see one of the dogs pooing again and get his attention (I'd probably have to run after him / yell as loudly as I could)

Other??

I don't think it's even that calculated with many tbh, they just don't think about it full stop, it doesn't occur to them, because they switch off from the dog when they're 'walking' it and aren't engaged at all. They usually think they're amazing owners as well, the type that shout "He's friendly!" When you're faced with a hackles up barking dog that's being dominant, but the tail is wagging so they think it's all good.
They're the ones with dogs that chase sheep and and are 'devastated' when they get shot because 'He's never done that before', or when they bite someone and "They're the friendliest dog you could meet! Never hurt a fly!" - the owners just don't put the time or effort in to train the dog or even understand their own dogs body language.

The one around here is usually 10 minutes behind his two and quite often no where to be seen, to the point one of them jumped in my car as I was unloading shopping one day and didn't want to get out until he wandered along and thought it was funny. Was tempted to shut it in and drive to the local rescue and hand it in!

I've got 2 of my own, I'm not a dog hater, but there's too many people who just let their dogs do exactly what they please and it impacts on the rest of us to an unacceptable level.

Jumped in your car 😱😱😱

I do agree there is a specific type of owner who does the 'he's friendly' thing when the dog is terrorising a child (my daughter has always been scared of dogs, for no apparent reason, but it's definitely not helped by dogs getting in her face when we are out walking)

It’s not your responsibility to offer him a poo bag as someone suggested. I think dog owners who don’t pay attention to their dogs and therefore “don't see” when they take a shit outside are scum of the earth. They totally do it on purpose. A dog is an animal and needs to be constantly supervised in case it shits somewhere and it needs cleaning up by its owner. This would make me murderous and I would pick up the shit, chase him and throw it at his head but I’m a nut case, you might want a softer approach, someone should be along soon to suggest one

I dont think ANYONE has said it is OP's "responsibility" to offer a poo bag. We are just coming up with suggestions as OP has asked for some.

This would make me murderous and I would pick up the shit, - exactly when a bag would be of use...

Yeah I came back to find him sat on the backseat and the other one piddling on my tyre 🤷🏼‍♀️, guy thought it was funny and "Oh he loves going in the car" but the dog refused to move and I wasn't about to drag it - like he had to.

I'm not bothered about the dog in the car, or the tyre piddling, I have my dogs in my car, dogs pee on tyres, but if my dogs had been in the car, as they often are, it'd have ended badly for everyone because both of those dogs are dominant and can be dog aggressive and my two would have gone back at that, in their own space, and I'd have had to get involved to at least untether my two and risk being bitten and it was a good while before he showed up.
And what if I'd needed to leave? I can accept that the dog might see a car and go to jump in, my dogs love the car, but I have them under sufficient control, close enough to say no and they listen.
That's what pisses me off the most, people like that never think about the potential concequences for their dogs or any people who are around, they just wander along doing what they want and act all shocked when something goes tits up, and blame everyone else.
"He just wants to play"
"He's friendly"
"He's just saying hello"
"It's because you've got an ice cream"
"It's because your dog is on a lead/got a ball/got a stick"
"I didn't see him do a poo"
Train the fucking thing and engage with it and take some responsibility for the animal you chose to have!

But they're everywhere unfortunately, selfish people, some of them just happen to own dogs.

Can you report to the dog warden? Or just a general complaint about dog mess everywhere? Hopefully if they do come out they might catch him!

I totally agree - v selfish and absolutely no thought of their actions on others

My plan is to approach him next time I see him and say something about how he might want to keep an eye on his dogs as I've seen them pooing several times when he is far in front.

Then if I see it actually happening again I'll try get video to report and do the yelling thing. Ill also grab a couple of poo bags from a friend with a dog to keep in my pocket as a back up if he (or anyone else) says they dont have any. I absolutely won't be picking any up tho, I hated that even when it was my own dog 😀

Go equipped! Buy a cheap whistle. Blast it and when he turns round wave a poo bag at him.

Yes! A whistle! Love this. I have a loud voice but honestly he is SO far away - a whistle could work 😀
