Annoyed with Lorraine Kelly today

She and her fashion woman (Jo?) were talking about the astronauts stranded in space for months. Showed a photo of the female astronaut with her grey hair at the end of the trip, vs a photo of her with brown hair when she got on the spacecraft. Cue lots of laughing and jokes about how she forgot to take her hair dye with her and how she must have enjoyed being back at the hairdresser. Really annoying that this astronaut is obviously v clever, brave, has had this huge achievement in her career (and probably v stressful experience) and they’re giggling about her grey roots. Pathetic

I agree it's shallow but LK works in an industry where grey hair (especially on women) isn't acceptable and she probably has a tyrannical schedule of having her roots done every two weeks.

For that dear lady to go to space is bliddy bravery … how insulting to comment on her hair..I call
thar being not very intelligent to make comments like that .. Sunita has grace and elegance and I really think she’s amazing and not annoying unlike Lorraine these days it seems

NC28 · 01/04/2025 11:09

I think the target audience for Lorraine’s show is a certain type of woman who’d probably be agreeing with what she said. It’s a show full of mindless shite usually - just fashion segments and interviews with actors from tv shows, from what I’ve seen. I think she’s just playing the part to connect with that target audience.

Saltedcarameltiramisucheesecake · 01/04/2025 11:09

It depresses me when women are perpetuating the focus on women's looks over anything else. See also female pop stars and actresses wearing fewer and fewer clothes. It's worse now than ever before. Then they wonder why they are being objectified.

MrsWinslowsSoothingSyrup · 01/04/2025 11:11

She's a moron.
She makes women look like assholes.

I don't know what people expect from a fluffy magazine programme that they are actually watching!

I mean she spoke about other aspects about being a female astronaut didn't she? She spoke about the impact on the body etc etc the thing about the hair dye was an add on to the conversation, also Lorraine is a flippant morning television programme they talk about clothes and hair and also health, it isn't supposed to be heavy, why do you watch it OP ?

not that it matters to this discussion at all, but I’ve already I said I just caught part of it. I don’t “watch” Lorraine. I didn’t see what they said before so maybe they did say something worthwhile but that doesn’t change the fact that laughing about her grey hair is completely inappropriate. It’s not about being “heavy” it’s about not being misogynistic

Isn’t the point they should be able to wear what they want without objectification?

Stupid comment. Doesn’t matter why I saw it but if you read my comments properly you will see i am not a watcher or a fan. Also doesn’t matter that it is a fluffy magazine programme, sexism like this is not ok

Well you had Lorraine kelly on she doesn't offend you that much

Can't stand her, she comes across as a bully/mean girl. I haven't watched anything she's on since she said "you go girl" when Eddie Izzard came out as trans, followed by finger snaps. Whatever keeps you relevant hun.

WongKarCry · 01/04/2025 11:22

It's awful, of course, but if you're watching Lorraine Kelly it shouldn't be a surprise. It's exactly the kind of thing you'd expect to hear on her show.

I've often wondered how someone so talentless has lasted so long on TV.

Foofedifiknow · 01/04/2025 11:22

I’d say the astronaut was relieved to arrive alive & not too bothered about her roots.Agree depressing to focus on women’s looks. I do watch and in some ways am relieved an older woman hasn’t been shuffled off air. I do love the sunbeam that is Ranvir - fun and natural - in time she could take over (definitely not dead inside Christine!)

Tilda86 · 01/04/2025 11:24

Everything about that woman irritates me. I don't know one person who actually finds her likeable.

CurlewKate · 01/04/2025 11:26

There is such a vast chasm between Kelly on daytime TV and Kelly when she chairs HIGNFY…..

Well you have to remember she's playing a character on her own show...

She’s always playing a character.

wherearemypastnames · 01/04/2025 11:31

I would expect a magazine program hosted by women to be somewhat less mysogenistic

casual misogyny isn’t ok at any time and in any place

Coffeeishot · 01/04/2025 11:33

Stripytablecloth · 01/04/2025 11:19

Oh dear !

Yes-I agree. I just wonder which one is closer to her. Because she is incredibly likeable on HIGNFY and incredibly unlikeable on daytime TV.

MikeRafone · 01/04/2025 11:37

Its sad when there has been such a marvellous achievement of going to space and they want to talk about someones hair colour...

Different, better script writer on HIGNFY probably

I’ve sent a complaint email to itv. Dont expect a response but this has really pissed me off this morning. If I made jokes about a woman’s grey hair at work, I’d be in trouble, don’t see why she should be able to be this sexist on tv

I can't find the complaints bit on ITV website, can you point me in the right direction, Thanks!

I hate HIGNFY. Completely unwatchable now.
