Electric car or petrol/diesel? Not sure what to go for (Mini Cooper)

I'm looking to buy a second-hand Mini Cooper, budget is around £15k. I was surprised to realise that most cars around that mark are now electric, I thought electric was way out of my price range so never considered it before. I'm not sure whether to go for electric or stick with what I know. I only have an automatic license so it would be an automatic gearbox regardless.

I would mainly be using the car for city driving - trips to the supermarket, into town, visiting family the next town over, etc. The occasional (maybe once every other month) long distance trip (100-200 miles). I'd happily stop off half way to charge the car, I like taking breaks when driving. I work from home so no commute to think about. I have a driveway that I could charge the car on.

Does it work out cheaper? Is it a hassle? Would love to hear any and all thoughts please. :) Thank you

Definitely not diesel, they're being phased out and taxed to death

Do you have a driveway? Might be easy to have an electric car that way

I admire your taste though, I'm dying for a mini countryman one day x

The old electric mini has a teeny tiny range - I think it was claimed at not much over 100 so in real life even less. I think it would only be workable as a second city car. No long distances at all.

I agree with @Fluffycloudsfloatinginthesky , the range on the older models is shockingly poor, but if you are mainly pottering around you might find that's ok. Don't forget car tax changes come into force on electric cars tomorrow so the tax isn't free anymore.
I have a Cooper S, , but petrol, and I absolutely love it. However I wouldn't want it as a main car, I struggle to fit a weeks food shop in the boot!
