Are ‘adults only’ hotels becoming more common?

I am not sure if I have just not noticed this in the past, but I am amazed how many hotels are now ‘adults only’.

Theres obviously a market for it, and I can see why people might want a child-free holiday experience.

I feel like at least half of the ‘nice’ hotels I look at turn out to be adults-only.

I even stayed in one recently where I hadn’t even clicked they were adults only (it was a boutique hotel with a handful of rooms) and it was touch and go if we could stay.

Has this always been the case, or is it a newer phenomenon?

Mine are primary age so still a few years of family friendly holidays to go. And a family hotel is perfect for us at this point in our lives as the holiday revolves round the kids basically.

But if we ever get the chance to go away without them - then absolutely adults only all the way! And in 10-15 or so years time when my kids don’t want to know, there’s no way I’m setting foot anywhere near a kiddie pool or a family friendly buffet.

Funnily enough our teens are the ones who are most disapproving of noisy children whilst sunbathing!

Ooh where did you go?

Majorca - it was just a long weekend but so so worth it!
Don't get me wrong….it was pricey, especially for a long weekend 🫣🫣😂 But DH earns significantly more when we are U.K. based and last time we were home we really took advantage of travelling in Europe! I’m British so I’ve done a lot of European travel, but DH? For him Europe is like a travel buffet 😂

I always book adult only hotels and campsites if they’re available. The reason for that is what I want on a holiday and what families want on a holiday is completely different. I want to lounge by the pool, in relative quiet and calm, and read a book, maybe have a dip and a swim. Kids want to run around and scream and shout, dive in and out of the pool, play games etc. and, as long as they’re behaving, why shouldn’t they? Just because we want different things doesn’t mean we’re wrong. Kids should be able to enjoy their holiday, I should be able to enjoy mine. I think hoteliers have cottoned on to this and are now catering more to what different groups of people want. In fact, my favourite hotel has both, on different parts of their site. We do occasionally stay in family hotels or campsites, and to be honest, if you accept kids being kids, it’s not too bad but not my first choice. It’s not the majority of kids that cause the problems, it’s a minority whose parents let them run wild, cause chaos and then say ‘they’re just being kids’ and take no responsibility.

I’m with you.
Ive got 3 DCs of my own. And while I love going on holiday with them and playing in the pool, building sandcastles on the beach etc, we are sure to book resorts that are specifically targeted towards families because no one is expected peace and tranquility when they go on holiday with kids are they? 🤷🏻‍♀️😂
When it’s just me and DH? I want good food, nice wine, and calm, peaceful pools and beaches - so we book adults only resorts for that.

We did 16 years of kid friendly hotels, so it's a pleasure to go for adults only now. We've seen some absolute horror shows over the years and whilst I've never really been bothered with kids running amuck around the pools/beaches, being able to eat in restaurants and drink in bars without them is what I truly appreciate.
