Few nights in Scotland with dog - where?

My daughter's going abroad with her friend and family in August so I'm thinking of taking myself and the dog for a quiet few nights away. Can anybody recommend any great dog-friendly places they've stayed? I'm aware Scotland is a big place, but I have a car, I'm near the border and don't mind a long drive 😆

East Neuk of Fife, lots of dog friendly beaches and accommodation, good food, lovely coastal walks.

By August m the west coast midges will be out in force. So East Neuk, Pitlochry, Ballater , Moray coast, all good options for fewer bites.

Arran. I've not found the midges an issue there, especially by the shore.

Go East Coast to avoid the midgies, but avoid Edinburgh and immediate surrounds because of the Festival. If you can go later in the month, our schools will be back so it might be a bit cheaper. East Neuk of Fife is a great shout. Or the borders.

Portpatrick.

Ohh I forgot about the midges. I went camping in the seven stanes on a mtb weekend and got eaten alive 😬😂
Lots to look into here, thanks ladies!

The worst midges I have experienced were in Braemar, the village was fine but the golf course and round our cottage near the river they were unbearable.

The Borders is lovely. East Neuk will be hoachin. Moray coast is quieter and villages like Hopeman, Findhorn, Cullen are great, fantastic beaches for walks

Dunbar and then travel around by car or train to places like North Berwick, Edinburgh etc. Or stay at North Berwick if your budget is healthy.

I've only been to Galloway once but it was absolutely lovely and quite quiet.

Gleneagles

Surely dogs are not allowed at Gleneagles?!

Yes dogs are allowed. I’ve been numerous times and other guests have been there with dogs. Lots of nice walking opportunities.
