Help me not throw my money away

Hello everyone!

I am trying to buy a gift for my kid's godmother (to be!). I had something in mind but she has spent more money for the Christening that I thought was needed and now I am overthinking it.

I know nothing about jewellery so I am afraid I will just buy something expensive with no real value...there is so much online! And they all look the same no matter the price.

All I want is a good quality necklace that is not too plain, real gold-so it won't rust etc. and hopefully under £450. Is it too much to ask? Anyone with specific brand recommendations?

PS I am already buying a small gift with sentimental value, this is extra just to say thank you for everything

Honestly
I don’t think it’s necessary.
i have never heard of buying the godmother a gift.

£450 😳 can I sign up to be Godmother ?!
Honestly a nice little card and a little thoughtful gift , why spend so much ?

Newmeagain · 30/03/2025 17:25

I recently looked at gold necklaces for myself. I thought I could get something nice for around £800. But no. Gold has really skyrocketed in price and the stuff I looked at was either gold plated or really flimsy hollow link chains.

I also don't see why a thank you gift is necessary at all or maybe a token one BUT have a look at Monica Vinader

Something up to £50 is fine. Pandora charm and card or something.

Hoppinggreen · 30/03/2025 17:35

Pandora can be a bit marmite though

I should say, I am not from the UK it is in our culture to do this. It is not unusual and will be expected.

What do you mean the godmother has spent more on the christening??

I looked at some chains..they are so expensive and they are a bit underwhelming I agree!

In which case I am not sure what you are asking as you would know better than us

I should have said in the OP...not from the UK, godmothers have a lot of expenses-even I hadn't realised how many! Ye sshe will spend way more than £450.

People are focusing a bit on the wrong thing..I just wanted jewellery recommendations. Maybe I shouldn't have gone into detail as to why

There was a reason for the question as the answer provides context.

If that's what people in your culture do then fair enough, but it shouldn't be that your spend is based on what she has as already spent. What's the norm, base it on that.

I think a gold charm bracelet would be a nice present for a godmother. Not necessarily Pandora. A wide-link gold bracelet and 1 or 2 charms wouldn’t be beyond your budget. You can add significant charms to it when your child passes important life events.

We did this for DD “on behalf of” her late grandparents and she now wears the individual charms on a simple leather necklace.

Is there anything here she’d like?
Ive used this site and have never been disappointed.

Look at Aurum + Grey for some nice quality jewellery

ThisPinkBee · 30/03/2025 18:53

What about a black pearl necklace? Black pearls are rarer than white pearls. Something about taking longer to reveal their beauty which is a nice message. They range in price.

I wouldn't personally want someone else to buy me jewellery. Chances are it wouldn't be to my taste, or I'd just forget to wear it and then feel guilty.

Kat256M · 30/03/2025 20:12

@sellotapechicken @ThisPinkBee @Isittimeforbedyet1 I will have a look thank you!!

We bought DD’s godmother a pair of simple stud gold earrings with DD’s Birthstone so there was a link to her.
