@Pantaloony123 I do think I have that! Even when I haven’t had a drink my skin is always red/bumpy. Could I ask what helps thanks

I get a red neck, rather than red cheeks. It happens with my first drink, but then goes away, even if I have further drinks.

I was told by a GP friend it was due to my body not metabolising the alcohol (or something like that).

PermanentTemporary · 29/03/2025 18:59

Yes pretty much always. If it matters to me what colour i am, I stick to soft drinks.

I don't really drink. And if I do it's like a glass twice a year. But cider is fine and gin or vodka is fine. But a mouthful of wine and I feel flushed, red and really off, makes my head weird.

But as I also don't like the taste of wine it's not a hardship to just not drink!

I have rosacea and some alcohol makes me bright red and flushed too - what helps? Not drinking that particular alcohol! 😩

HippyChickMama · 29/03/2025 19:08

Red wine has started having this effect on me since becoming perimenopausal, some red wines also now make me itchy around my neck but I think that’s the sulphites. Physical exertion now also can trigger rosacea on my face, never had it until I turned 45

Binglebong · 29/03/2025 19:09

Yep, cheeks and nose. It follows the bone so I have a really sharp line between red and normal round my eyes. Takes a single sip!

bigkahunaburger · 29/03/2025 19:11

I get a massive rash on my neck, and huge red cheeks. Always have. I dont give a shit.

Iknowaboutpopular · 29/03/2025 19:11

Yes, we call it Wine Shine round our way.

WonderingWanda · 29/03/2025 19:12

That's how my rosacea started, then the flush stayed for weeks after. I have discovered through trail and error that I'm ok if I avoid red wine.

Yes, I do, but I'm East Asian.

JackJarvisEsq · 29/03/2025 19:36

When I drink wine yes

it started when I was about 35 which was also when I all of a sudden developed a large amount of allergies

splendidpickle · 29/03/2025 20:19

Yes, most of my family get this. My brother calls it a pub tan!

PennyPencils · 29/03/2025 20:47

Yep. Since turning 40.
I don't drink often so haven't worked out which drinks do it but one beer has done it. Pure red cheeks but like a butterfly shape with white rest of face still.
One prosecco did it to but I know I have had the same beer another time and it didnt do it so idk

Soolantra / Invermectin

I have always flushed after drinking alcohol. Red wine seems to be worse than white wine.

What causes alcohol flush reaction?

Pantaloony123 · 31/03/2025 17:55

Yes - I did a big lifestyle review and started to take care myself more. I’m far less likely to get a wine flush but it does periodically happen. My rosacea is much better than it used to be.

Rooroobear · 31/03/2025 18:03

Beer flush we call it. Soon as I have a bit I’m red in the cheeks for about half an hour.
