How do I buy just a new bath?

I don't want or need an entire new bathroom but our bath is awful. How do I just buy a new one please?

Is it as easy as literally going to homebase or somewhere, buying it and paying a plumber to install it?
Or are there other considerations?

Before anyone thinks this is a really stupid question years ago I decided to replace the sink, brought one and no plumber would touch it. It became a huge and painful saga.

Essentially yes - buying it is the easy bit (that's just shopping).

The hard part is paying/delivery/installation etc etc.

I would find a plumber first: tell them your plans and if they want the work then send them the links to check they’re happy with everything.

No idea if this is the standard way of doing things but I did it that way having a radiator installed and it was really helpful to have their input.

Get a plumber then tell them which bank you want. They will check size and things like where plug is for watergto drain away.

If you want it to be the same size and plumb into your existing bath drain then you just go online and pick a bath!
victorian plumbing
b+Q
UK bathroom store

the fitting to the taps are easy to buy and flexible

Yes, just buy a bath and book a plumber to install it.

Get the quote for installation first as some people won't want such a small job. Check what they will need to do to make it look tidy. They might have a trade discount and be able to get it for you.

Gelatibon · 29/03/2025 18:36

I'd find the plumber first and ask his advice. Even if B&Q is the decision, he might be able to get a trade discount, but either way he'll make sure you get something he can fit in the space the old one vacates.

We have a roomy bathroom and our current bath has a round shape at one end for standing in the shower ideally we could carry that width on I think. So basically as long as it's roughly the same size and plugs roughly in same place it should be OK

Does anyone know the rough cost of installing it

Bump just in case anything to add

Did you buy it?

Lovegame · 30/03/2025 19:15

Will you need to retile the bath?

Notaflippinclue · 30/03/2025 19:20

Don’t buy it tell the plumber what you want and he will get the one that fits and he will get trade so you should get a good deal. He should give you a fixed quote.

Get the plumber in first. Some people have non standard pipe diameters. Butter voice of experience.
