Suitcase advice requested

I need a new suitcase. The one I've got is a medium hard shell, but it's not proved to be as robust as others I've had in the past and has been battered over the less than five years I've had it, including a corner being pushed in where it's obviously been dropped on it.

Do I go for another hard shell or a soft one instead? I don't want to spend a huge amount so the likes of Samsonite are probably out. Any recommendations? I am not a hand luggage only person and will pay for a checked bag if I'm going for longer than a weekend.

American Tourister Bon Air spinner are great.

I love my Tripp suitcase. I've had it over 15 years and used it at home and abroad at least 4 times each year. I wouldn't like a hard shell case.

I have a Tripp but the Tourister is superior IMHO. They weird as they have permanent sales on if you look in the right place

I have an antler soft shell, love it.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions I've ordered an American Tourister hard shell one. Think it's a past design as it was greatly reduced.

I bought a hard shell suitcase from M&S in the summer. It’s been great. Not too expensive and looks as good as it was when I bought it.

Interesting because I got a notification about their suitcases and thought they looked good quality. Anyway, will see what the AT one is like when it arrives.

If your looking for a hard shell, I much prefer these with the 3 point locking system over zips which can be opened easy or split.

Depends on how much your going to use the case, I travel a lot and do think most of the time esp with hard cases you get what you pay for.

I have Samsonite that are still going strong after goodness know how long but are retired from air travel due to the small handle for pulling. Much prefer the 4 wheeled spinners, and have had no issues at all. These below have been on the go now for 8 years all over the place. But they are more expensive.

Just coming back to this thread to report on how my American Tourister case fared when I used it recently. I found it to be very robust and much better quality than my previous case which had been really bashed about on flights. I took it on several train journeys and it was checked into the hold on a flight. You can tell it's been used but I'm really happy with how it's held up and it was very easy to push around. Hauling it up onto German and Belgian trains was slightly challenging, but that was down to the design of the trains!
