What colour should I paint the front door?

I need suggestions on what colour to paint our front door. The house is north facing 1910-ish semi detached, red brick with some yellow accent brickwork.

This isn't my house but is similar from rightmove.

I'd really like pale pink but I think it might be too much for DH. I also like red doors, what would you choose?

What colour should I paint the front door?

I’d go lilac to match the bit in the stained glass! Or orange. A nice, deep orange.

I love a brightly coloured door! Definitely match it with your windows! Raspberry red (darker than pillar box) might be a goer, or orange!

My door is bright red. I love it.

I’d match the lilac in the stained glass. It’s an unusual colour that will generate loads of compliments and if anyone complains you can point to the stained glass as an original colour

I'd go black. Pink would look awful against that orange brick

FairKoala · 27/03/2025 22:58

Just seen that it is a north facing door.
dark blues or black would be the colour I would go with

Pink in north facing light wont look as vibrant
You could try a deep purple but I would worry a pale lilac would again feel washed out and won’t give the vibrancy you are after.

Lilac

Can I throw green into the mix? I read that Edwardian houses usually had green or blue doors.

I now have green doors. They look so bright and cheery in comparison to the previous black ones!

Exactly my thought.
My ndn has a sage green door, it looks really nice. A darker green would suit a more traditional style of house like yours.

Ooh lovely suggestions.

The door is blue now but is so dark and dingy in the winter so I don't want blue again. I think sage green is a bit cottagey rather than city-like.

I like the yellow posted above, that's nice and warm. I'd love lilac but thought it might be too chilly?

I used to live in a house with the same colour brick frontage as yours, and I painted my door Farrow & Ball Porphyry pink. It was a great colour, but I don't think I'd choose pink again. Neither went with the colour of the bricks, nor contrasted enough. I love that yellow in the photo of Mushroomshroom's post!

rwalker · 28/03/2025 09:35

It’s a tasteful classy house so needs to be a primary colour
black
red
blue
green
at a push
yellow
aubergine

pinks not in keeping for a classy house
on 2nd thoughts scrap aubergine

Pinkissmart · 29/03/2025 07:15

Why would pink be a bit much for your husband?
Does he know his penis won't fall off?

I also like yellow

This is gorgeous.

We already have a pink ceiling in the living room and pink cat wall paper 🤣🤣🤣🤣

He'd paint everything sky blue if he had his way

maybe not classy but it makes me very happy
