The weird smell from minted clothes

every time I buy something from Vinted even if “new” it seems to have this weird overpowering chemical smell. is it febreeze? Or conditioner? Even when you wash it does not come out. Is there any way to get rid of this smell?

Why do people make clothes smell like This? It’s putting me off buying as I don’t like the chemical smell and it doesn’t seem to wash out?

yes I’ve noticed some of my kids friends smell strongly of clothes washing products. .
it is really overwhelming.
i have stopped wearing perfume and don’t use a lot of chemicals for cleaning.
the issue is though if you buy something as new / new tags why do people
think I would want it sprayed with febreeze! It never comes out wonder what it does to
your nasal cavity and lungs!

I don't know but when I've bought stuff from Vinted it usually reeks of their perfume.

I'm really sensitive to smells and perfume makes me gak! 😩

I bought a brand new (or so I thought!!) body warmer from a catalogue... It was in its plastic packaging but it REEKED of cheap nasty perfume. I think someone wore it and then sent it back. The whole house smelt of it. I rewrapped it to send it back and I could still smell it... 🤢

I think it’s Febreeze. It takes a good few washes to dissipate and if you wash the ‘new’ Vinted item with your other clothes, it makes them smell too. I’m not a fabric conditioner / air freshener kind of person so I can’t stand it either.

Same, it's vile.
I've worked out which charity shops in town use it and avoid.
I'm super sensitive to certain smells/taste and my bog standard fragrance free washing powder doesn't seem to fully shift that awful stench 😅
(I've been know to throw away dishes that have accidentally been washed in lemon scented tablets/detergent... coz I can't shift that either 😒)

I’ve noticed this too but it’s definitely different smells, often a scented laundry product which airs or washes out. The worst item was a sequinned shrug, which was febreezed heavily. I cool washed it 3 times, hung it outside and put it in the freezer before it was fresh enough to wear. It cost £2 so I would’ve chucked it if the stink hadn’t gone.

Those laundry bead things are made of some kind of wax My DS bought some for his high thread count sheets and they got stuck in the threads during washing.
i do use a splash of lenor outdoorables In a gentle Fairy scent as I live in a very hard water area
such a waste of money too

I had similar with my last vinted purchase. I still have the dress I bought because I'm rubbish at returning things but I haven't worn it because even after washing it, it still reeks of sickly perfume. 😩 How women wear that stuff is beyond me!

Is it to disguise the smell of mould?

Bought loads of stuff from Vinted (new or excellent used) and Charity shops, and I would probably agree there is a smell for those who have an acute sense of smell - it is usually for me, when second hand, because it has been washed with something like fabric conditioner. It is not a horrible smell, just more pungent than if you had bought new, online sometimes new smells just as bad (like packaging) Once washed in your normal routine, or hung out on a line, it should smell more like what you are used to in 90% of cases. I know what you mean, but don't think it should be a problem longer term HTHx
