Insomnia killing me

Does anyone have any tips for overcoming insomnia. It's caused by stress/anxiety/tension.

In general, the only advice I can find is so obvious it's bloody infuriating. I mean obviously I'm avoiding caffeine, and obviously my bedroom is "cool and dark" (do they think I try and sleep with a flippin spotlight on me?). I hate taking meds, but the only things that work are sleeping pills and tranquilizers. The problem is they leave me groggy and headachy the next day.

I take amitriptyline intermittently. It works for me.

Ashwanga is meant to be good for managing stress in the body which would help sleep

As soon as I hit peri age I just couldn't sleep. I was so poorly with anxiety as it was making me vomit every morning.

I was desperate and gp prescribed mirtazapine - I just take 7.5mg and I'm a new woman. I sleep reliably for 7+ hours and don't feel groggy at all and just like that the anxiety disappeared overnight.

I wouldn't recommend any antidepressant that is in the SSRI group as they're a nightmare to come off.

Try listening to something to distract your mind as the early hours are the most lonely especially if you have a partner sleeping soundly beside you. The sleepy bookshelf is my go to.

Hope you get some rest soon.

Hi OP, I recently struggled with weeks of sleeplessness due to a painful condition, and have had anxiety-related insomnia before so I empathise.
I found listening to sleep hypnosis tracks on Spotify really helpful. I was sceptical but they helped me focus on something other than pain/worry and eventually fall asleep. When I inevitably woke up again they helped me drop back off.
Not for everyone but could be worth a try (sorry if you've already tried sleep hypnosis).

2 easy things to try

  • Have a long hot bath, at least 20 minutes. It will change your core body temperature and mimic what happens when you fall asleep naturally.
  • Try an acupressure mat (Shakti mat or various knockoffs). Lie on it for 20 minutes - it hurts initially but eventually the endorphins kick in. This really helps my sleep.

Also you should be able to order melatonin from iherb. I’m sure you’ve tried magnesium, but if you haven’t try magnesium glycinate.
