'You are running late for a meeting but will make it on time if you dont stop on the way .Walking quickly along the hospital corridor you see a vistor looking lost .What do you do ?
My obvious answer would be 'I would stop and ask if they needed any help and direct / taken them there as nessessary, carry on to my meeting and apologise for being late '
Am I 'under thinking' my answer?

Sounds okay to me.

Your answer sounds fine to me.

The whole point of the NHS is to provide patient care. Meetings can wait.

Nothanksiwillwalk · 24/03/2025 18:06

Nhs manager her. Absolutely, stop and support the person and explain at the meeting. The nhs is about supporting people and patients always come first.

Thank you .
It seems like my answer is too obvious.
Maybe I'm just over thinking it 🤔

Triage the person according to need.

Example if they have blood pouring out one arm then that is a score 10 need. If they are equipped with a phone and can clearly google then that is a 1.

5 or above you stop and help. Below 5 you ignore or wave vaguely and carry on.

Edit - this is not meant to be taken seriously.

obviously you should help, but the question is trying to find out what you have read about the hospital beforehand.

Every NHS hospital will have its core values on its website. They are trying to see if you have read them.

Smallwins · 24/03/2025 18:48

I would add in following events reflect on why you were tight for time and consider any changes you may make in the future

Sadcafe · 24/03/2025 18:52

Nearly always ran late for meetings in the NHS because I had this bad habit of thinking patient care came first, but no you are not overthinking your answer

Your reply is perfect 👌🏼 (nhs employee here 20+ years)

Yep, they want you to tie it into the values.

it’s a standard question

of course you stop and help - but then if they need help getting there ask a patient volunteer or porter to take them as you have to get to a meeting where other staff are waiting .
