Would you rate this a productive or lazy weekend?

Fri night - home from work at 6pm, drove youngest to a residential football camp for the weekend. Went to gym for an hour with teen daughter. Came home 8.30pm and ate pasta pesto with daughter who then went out, played on phone while listening to Audiobook for 2 hours. Bed.

Sat - up at 6am, ordered a Tesco delivery and let dog out, played with phone for 90 mins, met friends for hour dog walk, cooked omelet for teen daughter, gym for an hour with her, made photo album of all 2024 family pics for couple of hours and ordered it, ordered new work clothes, played on phone while listening to audio book for 2-3 hours, went out with friends for dinner, home at 11pm and played on phone for an hour.

Sun - up at 6am for Tesco delivery arrival, played on phone and listened to audio book for 90 mins after unpacking shopping, dog walk with friends for an hour, batch cooked three lasagnas, baked a cake for family tea, washed groomed dog for an hour as he was a total mess, did 2x loads of laundry, gym for an hour, picked up son from camp, heated up one of the lasagnas for everyone’s dinner, played on phone for two hours while listening to audio book and am still doing that now .

my guilt is about the hours on my phone meaning I’m less productive than I should be, but then I also feel I got things I needed done all done.plus I work full time so need down time. Would others feel this was a productive weekend or too much phone time?

So one last question for those who say it’s way too much time on phone. What was your screen time data from your phone for the weekend and if you look at other screens (laptop, iPad, TV etc) then add that time on for the total.

I am not being goady but i am interested in what is normal for screen time in my generation nowadays. Am I a total outlier with an average of 5 hours?

You were up very early so, unless you go to bed early too, you have a lot of hours to play with. Your weekend sounds very productive to me!

I would rate it as very boring. Do you have hobbies or interests? Things you like doing for yourself other than than gym?

I think you will look back and regret actively choosing to spend leisure time 'playing' on your phone - no one on their death bed is going to say they wished they'd spent more time scrolling. But then I enjoy lots of other things. If you don't have other interests maybe you won't. Who knows.

She did lots of things people would call hobbies or fun for the weekend - went to the gym with her daughter twice, baking, walks with friends twice, going out for a meal with friends, faffing with photos, listening to books.

Its more leisurely and more social than my weekend was.

What did you do/should we be doing that's more "fun"?

I had slightly over two hours on my phone all weekend, and that was pretty much entirely messaging or responding to messages, and trying on WhatsApp to find a day that will work for DS’s birthday party.

I think that's a very normal weekend. You were productive as you got jobs done and had some downtime to see friends for dinner, walk the dog and you spent time with your daughter at the gym.

If you had swapped phone time for watching a film or reading a book, no one would question whether it was a good use of time. I'm like you, sometimes I like an hour of chill time on my phone after a busy morning.

Two things - 1 why are you beating yourself up so much? Sounds like you are being mean to yourself.

2 getting up at 6am at the weekend - you deserve a medal.

3 the phone is just a device for different leisure activities. Like a TV is, or a computer. Music, books, games, forums, information, shopping, social.

I think you are doing really well and should be nicer to yourself
