I've got a spring in my step because........

Tolkienista · 23/03/2025 08:05

I've just had my hair coloured.
Nothing wrong in that, except I'm 66 and I just can't envisage letting my natural grey shine through.

I have my hair coloured professionally four times a year, progressively getting lighter. In between cut and colour, I use a root touch up powder.
It's ridiculous how much it means to me, but really felt like I had a spring in my step leaving the hairdresser yesterday, ready to look in the mirror and like my reflection.

Please share your thoughts on going grey.
My face is untouched, never had any work done to my body either.
I'm a size 8-10, eat healthily, exercise regularly but the thought of going grey, hhhmmmm.
Your thoughts.

I've got a spring in my step because........

Well I don't even have a head, so all you people talking about hair should be grateful you have a head for hair to grow on. We're not all so lucky.

I agree with you.

My goodness, don’t you love yourself. Or perhaps that should be my goodness, don’t you have a down on people who have grey hair. On second thoughts though - I think it’s the more if the former.

Just do what’s good for you, continue loving yourself so splendidly and don’t give the women who have chosen to let their hair go a beautiful grey a second thought.

Im 67, my natural silver grey hair colour is my crowning glory and Im so glad I gave up on my multiple visits to the salon about 7 years ago to let nature take its course. My hair has never looked as beautiful as it does these last few years.

Harsh. I don't think OP was loving herself at all, or looking down on anyone with grey hair.
Not everyone gets beautiful silvery grey hair, and even if they do it doesn't get that way overnight. It could take years of being with a sort of wishy-washy colour that they don't like. Aging gracefully doesn't mean you have to put up with something you don't like that is easily altered and gives you a psychological lift. We're not talking Madonna levels of anti-ageing surgery here.

Op, I’m so glad my hair is mine, and yours is yours.

Oh, your hair is stunning, I love it. if mine was that colour I definitely wouldn't dye it.

Every cloud has a silver lining. Even not having a head.

You must save an imaginary fortune in hair removal on your non existent upper lip.

Well at least you will never have to worry about saggy jowls. Though possibly turkey neck might be an issue.

Im not sure why you’re confused Enigma.

The poster joked that she didn’t have a head and I joked that every cloud has a silver lining if it saves you money on your upper lip (hair removal).

Perhaps you were confused by her post?

Jeezie Peeps - turkey neck, batwing arms. Just how many more bits of us are named after animals?

I’ve never thought of that before.

Admittedly it doesn’t take much to confuse me. Chemo brain and all that shit.

I know and I’m very sorry though I know that means absolutely nothing and is of no comfort at all.

I keep up with some of the ladies, yourself included, from my time on the cancer threads which is why I wanted to explain what my reply meant.

SirRaymondClench · 23/03/2025 17:03

I hear you OP. I think your hair colour is lovely and I know the exact feeling. You just feel so refreshed.

I firmly think women should have our hair however the fuck we like our hair. I love the natural grey movement and I think most look amazing with it but I don't think I am one. I smile whenever I see beautiful silver haired women looking so cool and stylish but for me, I will probably always be 'Improbable Chocolate Brown' , even in my 90s.

I get my roots done every 5-6 weeks and the shade I am is a little darker than my original colour but recently we were on holiday somewhere with really hard water and my colour drained away.
I was shocked by how much grey I now have coming through (I'm 52) I just looked so washed out. I am cool toned but I looked so old and ill.
Like fuck will I allow it to go more than a few weeks before my roots are done now.

I was recently going to have it all stripped out and to go lighter and more my natural chestnut brown but I have chickened out twice because I actually love 'Improbable Chocolate Brown' and I just feel like me with it like that.

I would absolutely love to let my grey grow out. If it suited me I would absolutely love to but I just looked ill when I tried.
I recently had 16 year old breast implants removed after breast implant illness and I was so ill for so long so getting those out and detoxing slowly was everything. I've got my health back now and am loving my body again after putting it through so much shit and not loving myself before.
So I'd love to not have more chemicals on my body now but I just look like 'me' with dyed hair. I love grey hair on every woman who I see, I think it's beautiful.

I'm mid 40s and naturally grey. I get loads of compliments on the colour. Personally I think people in their 60s/70s look silly with obviously dyed hair.

I doubt you get loads of genuine compliments grey hair no matter how healthy makes any person look old but whatever tickles your fancy

Tolkienista · 23/03/2025 17:27

@SirRaymondClench thanks for your multiple posts and your positivity.
Just to reiterate as the OP, when I posted this morning it was from a place of exasperation that I feel so positive because I've done something unnatural......colouring my hair, but as you pointed out "you feel so refreshed" and that's it in a nutshell for me too.
I'm honestly not advocating anyone dye their hair.

@Tolkienista Your hair looks good.
I'm amazed @Weepixie made such a spiteful post but then I saw the picture of her hair and understood exactly why.

Flidina · 23/03/2025 18:31

It looks lovely OP and I'm glad it makes you feel good, I have embraced my grey hair and I actually love it, it's a nice soft silver colour that people say suits my colouring, did have my doubts while I was growing the coloured hair out,and was tempted to dye it many times ,but so glad I persevered now.

henlake7 · 23/03/2025 18:55

Good on you OP, life your best life!
Grey or silver can look beautiful, if I could rock it I would Def let my hair go. Sadly mine is a mousey/dirty kinda colour and the grey in it just looks awful.
I was dying it a dark blonde but then I accidently dyed it copper one time and got so many compliments I kept it up (luckily my fringe hides alot of the grey roots!).

ScottishSheepie · 23/03/2025 21:28

You have your hair whatever way you like it, OP.
My own hair didn’t go grey, I started getting white hair at the front from my early thirties but the back has gone a rather nondescript beige colour ( originally a blonde)
I would have been happy to keep dying but developed an allergy to permanent colour so I just have it like this now. Straight usually but sometimes I curl it.
Its vibrant to start then fades out to a nice pastel colour 😊

Looks good OP. My mum coloured her hair until she was 70 (then went grey during Covid, like a lot of people!). I think it kept her looking young.
