How difficult is it to transition from a traditional car with clutch and gears to a modern automatic?

Very easy.

Very easy, your hand goes to the gear stick for a few days and that’s about it.

It’s also good for the car, as it will always be in the right gear!

DappledThings · 22/03/2025 16:15

Easy. I was nervous about it and especially the weird creeping forward unless you are actively braking. But it was fine.

I didn't ever really like it though. Had an automatic for just under a year and when it was written off after DH got rear-ended we went back to a manual.

Oh it's an absolute fucking dream. I was scared I might reach for the gear stick or slam on my break thinking it was the clutch out of habit so I was nervous when I first drove an automatic, but it was completely fine and I'd never ever go back to manual.

An absolute doddle - just tuck your clutch leg back a bit fir the first few days

It’s also much easier on
the hips and knees if in traffic and hill starts are very easy!

IamChipmunk · 22/03/2025 16:28

Really easy, once you stop reaching for the gear stick!
I wouldn't go back now.

Gingerkittykat · 22/03/2025 16:37

Very easy.

I changed 4 months ago and the first drive I kept trying to change gears but I got used to the automatic really quickly.

I would hate to go back to a manual now!

So so easy! Not like the other way!

PickleSarnie · 22/03/2025 16:48

Very easy. You need to pretend that your left leg is dead to you. Tuck it under seat a little - generally just keep it away from the clutch that no longer exists!
