As in the fabric place.

I just called it abba-carn
But now I'm in an argument with my colleague who says is abba-can.

How do you pronounce it?

There is one in Chester too, so I assume there some more?

Nine in total, I think. I’ve been going to the Mostyn one with my mum for over 30 years - it’s one of my favourite things to do when visiting

Dangerouz · 22/03/2025 19:13

Abba can according to my aunt who works there :) that's how the family pronounce it

Sunshineandgrapefruit · 22/03/2025 20:20

I also thought Askaban at first!

Darkclothes · 22/03/2025 20:26

Never heard of it. Initially thought it was a baby name! 😬

In my head, I thought Abba-Carn.

If its a shop- how do THEY pronounce it?

Sherararara · 22/03/2025 20:29

Toblerone

Needtosoundoffandbreathe · 22/03/2025 20:33

Abba-can. A friend used to work there.

redastherose · 22/03/2025 22:59

I’ve been to the Birkenhead one with my mum a few times who was from up the road in New Ferry, she always said it ABBA-caan with slight emphasis on a longer aaa sound in the caan bit!

lylagarrity · 22/03/2025 23:07

I love the one in Hanley ☺️

SinnerBoy · 22/03/2025 23:17

The kh sound is not c/k - more of a throat clearing sound. If you know the Harry Enfield character Stavros and "Khello, matey peeps!" thing.

User478 · 22/03/2025 23:33

With a strong scouse accent.

I grew up thinking that it was a "type" of shop like you get meat from the butcher, veggies from the greengrocer, fabric from the abakahn.

LizaRadleywasonthespectrum · 23/03/2025 11:27

It’s Aba Can. Anyone saying it differently is wrong.

How lovely to see someone using an adverb. I mean that quite sincerely, folks.

Fleakster · 23/03/2025 12:38

Definitely with the ‘can’ side at the end. I used to know Mrs A:)

intrepidpanda · 23/03/2025 13:00

Surely to be abba-carn it would need an r in the name

Wow, it sounds way more exotic than Wales.

Bit rude 😂
