Root canal...how long will my mouth be numb?

I'm having root canal on Monday morning and am supposed to be going to a birthday lunch 🙃. How long does it usually take for the numbness to wear off? Thank you in advance ☺️

It should be numb throughout the procedure then probably for another two or three hours. But over that time it gets less. It does depend on how your body takes the anesthetic.

I don't think it's that much longer than when you get another type of work like large filling?
Though obviously the procedure itself takes longer.

I had one and then a crown. I was so happy as it was giving me terrible pain for years and then nothing, forever. So please don't worry x

Mine was several years ago, but I agree it was only numb about 2hrs post the procedure max- same as a regular filling. I vaguely think I needed to go in twice, because it was a molar with several roots. The 2nd time, when I came out, I went to the post office and stood in the queue. I recall feeling absolutely off my rocker and high! I know its only local anesthetic, but it do wonder if it had somehow become systemic. It wore off fairly soon.

I'd stock up on ibuprofen and paracetamol if needed for when the feeling returned, but check ibuprofen is ok with the dentist in terms of bleeding etc. Mine wasn't painful at all BTW. My jaw was just tired and achy and the inside of my gum/cheek felt a bit battered about. If its achy, I'd have a simple lunch like soup or something that doesn't need much chewing.

I didn't bother with anaesthetic for my root canal procedure. However my mouth was quite sore afterwards, I wouldn't have wanted an expensive/ posh lunch afterwards.
