Tell me all the things I’ve probably forgotten to pack (and if I’ve forgotten them from hand luggage or hold!)

Mine are all carry on:

Wet wipes. I'm the weirdo who wipes their table and arm rests on a flight Shen first sitting down.

Make up remover...I take reusable pads with micellar water in a bag to take off make up and to have then have a refresh before landing.

Toothbrush and paste...I hate bad breath after a long flight

Eye mask

Ear pods

A wrap/pashmina thing as hate being cold

Eye drops! I always get very sore dry eyes on long haul flights, the times I remember eye drops I'm very pleased with myself! 😆I hope you enjoy your trip.

Phone charger, i’m currently in my gate so can’t get out, just noticed my charger in my bag is for my last phone, so yeah painful airport prices when I land.

How annoying, I forgot my iPad charging cable and had to buy another at the airport, now the spare one lives in the iPad travel case I bought along with spare headphones, ready for when we go away. So easily done, I remember everyone else’s stuff but always forget something I need.

Yes for sure! Looking ok at the minute but very aware there will be disruption all over. Hopefully less than if we had chosen Heathrow though.

You should be fine, I’ll probably be proved wrong but on the face of it TBH I can’t see why yesterday’s events 30 ish miles away up the road at Heathrow should disrupt Gatwick today…

There’s almost nil overlap between the two airports in terms of aircraft and crew operations (even with airlines with a presence at both such as BA), I guess the only issue might be passenger numbers might be slightly up if people have rebooked..

Good luck, don’t forget your passport………

Hand wipes, hand cream, and I always wear moisturiser on a plane as my skin gets dry, eye drops are a good idea too.

RollerSkateLikePeggy · 22/03/2025 07:33

A power bank and cable. I disagree with a PP and think all pairs of glasses should be in your carry on. They are often not covered by insurance, very expensive to replace, and a complete pain if your bag goes missing and you don't have them on holiday!

Itisjustmyopinion · 22/03/2025 07:51

Hand luggage - one of those compressed packing cubes with change of clothes, underwear and PJs/nightwear just in case luggage goes missing (plus if you arrive late you don’t have to get your case all open to find your PJs)

Hold luggage - half of your clothes in one suitcase and half in DHs and vice versa. Again in case one case goes missing (if you have kids then obviously split their stuff across the cases too)

You would think I had lost lots of cases, never lost one! But still do this just in case

Passport, Toothbrush, clean pair of pants, travel plug, wallet. Anything else can be sorted as needed!

BigDahliaFan · 22/03/2025 08:09

Medication in your carry on.

I think quite a few planes diverted there but hopefully won’t have too much of an impact.

I think quite a few planes diverted there but hopefully won’t have too much of an impact.

Gatwick didn’t accept that many diversions (it generally doesn’t due to capacity), a lot of flights that had to divert due to the Heathrow problem went into more distant airports in the UK and Europe.

For info any aircraft that did actually divert to Gatwick yesterday will have been shifted to off stand parking once passengers were deplaned to allow normal Gatwick operations to continue (which it did). By now, Sat AM, anything that did divert in will almost certainly have been repatriated or it will be very shortly (BA recovered at least one aircraft back to LHR yesterday evening).

TBH there was a bit of very badly/uninformed catastrophising going on yesterday on at least one other thread here and elsewhere speculating about the knock on effect on Gatwick…

I know it’s dangerous to speculate, and I don’t want to tempt fate, but I suspect when you get to Gatwick today you’ll see little to nil change from what you’d expect to see on a normal Saturday.

Have a good flight.
