Job offer worries

I went for a job interview this morning and then got a call shortly after offering me the job.

The job is at my son's primary school as an admin assistant, everything about it is perfect except it would be less money. My current job is also in a school but is very well paid but it is extremely stressful. I am part time as i have 2 children on my own and my current role should really be a full time role due to the amount of work.

The offered job is only 10 mins away which means I could walk to and from with my son everyday rather than spending nearly £30 petrol a week.

If i have done my calculations correctly the lower wage would mean more UC so really I would be down about £70 a month not factoring in the petrol saving.

Would you do it? It would be managable, I would just have to budget a little more.

Do it! Life is too short when you have a family to look after to be stressed as fuck in a job!

So you're down £10 a week including the petrol saving, surely if the other job is that stressful it's worth £10 a week to change to one that's better for your wellbeing , I'd imagine the shorter commute will give you more time at home too so now you've to get things done, again less stress.

I would definitely take the new job.

£10 less per week seems very do-able to budget for, another one saying go for it! . If you do find it a struggle later down the line, £40 is definitely an amount that can be made up from small earning ideas like online surveys. Worth the reduced stress.

Well, according to your calculations, you’ll spend £120 less a month in petrol (£30 a week) and only be £70 worse off in terms of income, so you should be £50 better off if you change jobs.

100% take it
lt is well worth it for an easier life and your mental health

ThisLimeShaker · 22/03/2025 07:53

Why would you not factoring the petrol saving? Are you planning on driving a lot?

babbi · 22/03/2025 08:29

Definitely take the new job .
Enjoy your family with less stress and more time .
You can go back to a higher level job if you wish in the future when they are much older .

Pineapplewaves · 22/03/2025 08:33

Is your new job part time? If you claim UC they will expect you to look for another job to make your hours up to 35 hours a week or find a full time job.

MegaClutterSlut · 22/03/2025 11:01

Take the job, know what its like to be stuck in a job you don't enjoy so I say go for it!
