Leeds council housing

Hi all, new here. Wanted some advice on social housing in Leeds
I've been trying to get a higher banding so I can move to another property quicker.
I've had problems with my neighbours and flying monkeys.
I've been on band c for about 3 years now and currently bid on 2 properties yesterday. I have aspergers and ocd and dealing with the fallout of a narc from 3 years ago still sigh, do these people ever* stop smearing??

Anyways I've been looking at moving slightly out the area, not too far as I still have friends.
The thing is, I seem to be lower in the que for a 2 bed bungalow than a 1 bed house on band c (currently resident in a 1 bed bungalow) due banding assessment very soon. I'm still quite high though, just under 300 for 1 property and under 350 for another.

Should I make them aware about police being involved a few times about the neighbours? I've updated it on my Leeds homes application site with references etc

Also did any of you manage to go from council to private with help from dwp? Seem to be a lot friendlier people private from my experience, but the rent is almost double what I pay now?

Do they backdate banding at all? What's the general way to get higher up the que? I'm only band c. Last time I bid on the current property I'm in in March but didn't get my call to come view it until September 2021.

If anyone works in the social housing sector I'd be greatful for your input. I've been tempted to redecorate and things recently but I thinking to myself what's the point if I want to give up the tenancy here? I mean the bungalow I'm in is a lovely location, decent size living room, and bedroom etc and much better than the flat I was in so any help I'd appreciate it

Hi sorry to hear of your issues with your neighbours.

Have you got a crime reference number from the police at all?
You maybe awarded a higher banding due to being at risk from harm.

Get a letter from your GP about your health conditions send it to your housing officer.

You can appeal your decision, I was in Band C when I should of been in Band B and I kept on appealing it and sent relevant information and I was finally awarded Band B and I got a brand new build 2 bed house within a week (waiting list is short where I live).

Good luck OP, I know how stressful it can be waiting to be rehoused.

Private renting is expensive and does not offer long term secure housing like council
and housing associations provide.

Thanks eastabunny! Yes it's been very difficult thinking about it. Left my narc 3 years ago and one monkey lives next door!!

Anyhoo, I will definitely look at appealing my current banding as I was band b when I got this bungalow offered in 2021.

The thing annoying me is because ocd is mental and hidden like my aspergers they're all out and about saying I don't look ill etc which is annoying af lol, they don't see me do my rituals, they don't hear my obsessive thinking etc etc

They tried making out I wasn't entitled to this property when on the ad it clearly says no medical recommendation required so I know I don't have to worry about that bit.

One neighbour has been creeping onto my porch stealing cig ends out the jar (now moved that) and denying she's been on my property at all even though I've had to upgrade my camera system which the housing won't do anything about because this person isn't on the neighbours tenancy!
Sooooo frustrating

Awe bless you!
It’s awful when you have such nuisance neighbours, it can really take a toll on your mental health.

I would definitely keep appealing and be persistent.
I was awarded Band C last year and after numerous appeals I was finally awarded Band B in July and won the first bid I placed in that band.

One of my friends was evicted from her council house due to her ex husbands debts and she was made homeless and they refused to house her.

It was only after she wrote to her local MP and with their intervention her and her kids were finally housed.

I really think perseverance is the key with council housing and keep appealing.

Surely your neighbour coming onto the property is harassment?

Fingers crossed you get moved to a higher banding, I know the waiting game seems like forever but you will get there eventually xx

Hey, so the housing officer won't do anything about the person coming onto my property because she's not on the neighbours tenancy all they can do is talk to the neighbour about their visitor. The person in question has issues themselves.
Whilst I understand and empathise that everyone has problems I've had to send cctv to the councillors and the police just to get reference numbers and crime numbers because the police say of it happens on two more occasions it's a course of behavior and a pattern so they can proceed.

It's really annoying waiting for it, the bungalow am at It's in a brilliant location, the narcissist is long gone but the smear remains.

I really didn't want to leave this bungalow but the council don't really seem to have much power and I have had enough of the gossips. I wouldn't do well in certain areas as I'm prone to panic attacks and get lost easily because I can't read a map so I don't want to go too far out the area, it's the malicious gossip and trespassing that's done it for me

I'll be getting onto them at 9am this morning, easta, I didn't realise you can appeal banding so I'm much obliged for your input!

Hey,
It sounds awful, I assume that the visitor coming onto your property would be classed as “antisocial behaviour” if it’s causing you alarm and distress.

You can also raise a Community Trigger if you have reported these incidents within a specified time period.

With a Community Trigger it involves meeting the police and members from the council to offer a solution to the problem and they can give the offender a CPN (Community Protection Order) to the offender.

Have you tried contacting the council about the anti social behaviour?

Hopefully you can get it resolved one way or another 😁xx

eastabunny · 22/03/2025 13:34

CPN - meant Community Protection Notice.
I have had my share of bad neighbours so I know a little bit about the process. X

Hey Eastabunny, so I got in touch with them today via the review panel and they've already forwarded on my information to the correct department, I was browsing on the website for housing and since I'm not appealing a decision, they're going to consider it.

It turns out the last 2 property I bid on i was over 500 in the que, so no chance.ive asked them to consider to please backdate it to 2022 when I first re registered post split with the narc.

I hope it goes well. I'd have never thought about banding if it wasn't for you, thanks for that!
