Dream house but needs work. Is this a viable offer?

We have found our dream house in our dream village. It’s perfect but does need considerable work.

people on here seem really good at calibrating what is a decent offer. So on this house do you think in the current climate we will lose credibility with the sellers if we offer 10% less than asking?

the house is here. Lots of pics but they hide the ones showing the need for interior work until close to the end. I know it’s pricey and we would have to do a lot of work to convert the house and outbuildings so we could run it as a home and holiday business. www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/152048501#/?channel=RES_BUY

It’s a fab property. I would live in it as it is just for the spot it’s in.
Hope you manage to secure it. Please keep us posted

What would your London teens think of a move to rural Dartmoor op?

and I will stay in London with those of our kids who are still at secondary school until they finish a levels. so you won’t need to sell yours before buying this?

We have two kids at uni and two who we will see through to uni while doing this up and before I leave London - so nobody will have to live on Dartmoor if they don’t want to. I love the idea of them bringing grandkids there etc one day. And having weekends out of their city lives down there. They have known and loved the area since birth but never lived outside a big city so I can’t imagine them wanting to live with us full time there.

So 4 children, 2 and uni and 2 still at school?

and you will stay in London for next few years?

you’ll be surprised these days how post uni… many want or need to come home but this will mean a monumental mission to get to. Fine for some but would be my nightmare that my young adult kids would regard visiting me as something that has to be very much planned for and organised in advance

Hence me never considering somewhere like this! But you are so presuming so very different view. Good luck with the hunt!

There are so many photos of the land and so few of the house and outbuildings, that I wonder what is not visible.

The house is lovely…but OP that’s easily £500k of reno costs. Easily. I appreciate your DH can do some of it, but how much can he realistically do alongside a PhD and looking after elderly parents? The poor bloke is going to be knackered. And are you sure your marriage will survive being separated for several years, DH having little time with his wife or children, and the financial cost of running two houses?
