DS hates school (6 year old)

My 6 year old hates school, he’s in year 1. It’s only got really bad since going into year1, his lovely teacher left at Christmas who he adored and ow he has one that not many seem to like. She’s very cold and unapproachable.
ds has also said some of his classmates are teasing him and making him sad which I’ve spoke to school about.

what else can I do other than speak to school when he’s come and told me what’s happened? He seems to be getting worse and he’s literally begging me each morning to not take him to school. Crying himself to sleep too. It’s awful.

Hes on the pathway for adhd diagnosis but even though he struggles to sit still all day, it’s not relevant to how distressed he is about school.

Hi OP, that’s so hard. I feel for you both and have had similar experiences with my first DS. I would make an appointment to speak to the SENCO at school to see what can be put in place for him - sometimes some small tweaks can make the world of difference. What’s he like at the end of the day?
check out the fb group ‘not fine in school’ there is lots of great advice on there . It’s heartbreaking seeing your child unhappy x

What is it about day to day that makes him agitated at home as this might be a clue to what he's not liking at school. E.g. how is he at parties? How does he cope with transitions, does he like structure? is he distressed by not knowing what to do, or maybe he doesn't like noise or crowds, or is he demand avoidant? It might be the environment is triggering things that make him agitated. I think at this age unless he can say something specific (like bullying), then it's likely to be a feeling he can't fully grasp or articulate so it's going to take a bit of investigation and insight. I would speak to the teacher and ask for a meeting to try and see if there are points of the day he seems distressed. If he is on the pathway for ADHD then it might be he's struggling with things like routines, demands, sensory environment e.g. noise, colours, smells. It might just be a case of the school putting some things in place for him to feel more comfortable, they have a responsibility to make adjustments.
