I trying to save money. I am currently paying for 3 sims, 35GB data (I think) for £33, I pay for my daugters sims who are 18 and 23 (but wondering if i should stop for DD1)
How easy is it to swap to Giff Gaff for instance? PAy as you go....

Giffgaff is great

PlugUgly1980 · 20/03/2025 04:51

Definitely swap around. It was eye opening when I was looking for my daughter’s first contract at the start of the year. I naturally went to EE and the other big name brands, but ended up getting her a contract with Talk Talk for about a third of the price. More data than both myself and my husband have on our contracts for less money. No issues with service or anything to date. We’ve both said we’ll shop around and go for some of the lesser known brands when our contracts are up for renewal.

B1indEye · 20/03/2025 04:51

Do you mean £33 in total or each? If it's in total you won't save a huge amount, if it's each you'll easily get all three for less that yhat

Switching phone provider is easy but why would you go to pay as you go, isn't that expensive?

toastofthetown · 20/03/2025 05:02

Personally I’d avoid Giffgaff or any provider who use the O2 network because the signal is awful. I know people all over the country - in large cities and rurally - who have either already moved from O2 to EE or are planning to when out of contract because they never have 4G/5G. Maybe ask in a local Facebook group how people find their providers where you are, but my experience from my husband and sister who had O2 vs me on EE on various trips around the UK was that they always struggled and I rarely did.

If you’re happy with your signal, I think 1p use the EE network. I’m not an expert in lower cost mobile providers, but it might be worth trying it for a month and seeing how it goes.

Fleetheart · 20/03/2025 05:03

go to tesco, nice and simple and good prices dim only

countrygirl99 · 20/03/2025 05:08

I think.Tescomalso.use O2. I'm in an O2 blacksmith and found most of the cheap options use them. Ne very careful who provides the actual network that the provider is piggybacking on to.

Keepingittogetherstepbystep · 20/03/2025 05:17

Smarty might be worth a look if you've got a decent 3 signal. They are wholly owned by 3.

1p mobile use ee

Depends on your signal 02 are rubbish where I live. So that would rule out giffgaff sky and tesco mobile here.

I was about to start a thread also on leaving ee as my 12 month contract has come to an end, and I want to switch.

JellyTotsAreYum · 28/04/2025 19:14

I use NOW Mobile which uses the EE network

QuestPip · 26/05/2025 22:46

Hi, still working out what to do. My bill has gone up again to £38! 20GB data that I dont use. Will gift 1gb a month to each DD.
My EE broadband has also gone up to over £40 a month

Superdrug do 30g for a tenner. On 3 mobile.

minnienono · 26/05/2025 23:00

You get the sims, ask for a pac code from your current provider then switch them across, really easy. I pay £10 a month for 40gb with giffgaff which crucially includes 5gb eu roaming unlike others

minnienono · 26/05/2025 23:02

@toastofthetown

ive had o2 then giffgaff that piggybacks for years and have never had a signal issue other than in very rural places where my dh’s vodaphone doesn’t work either.

Hallywally · 26/05/2025 23:03

O2 are terrible- awful customer service & poor reception in urban areas that I go to (north west of England- densely populated areas).

QuestPip · 26/05/2025 23:17

I got my youngest a sim for an old phone so we could keep in touch as ive just started letting her out to play for a bit after school. No issues with service on that phone.

I recently changed to Lebara via u-switch.

Different deals available but I went for 10gb a month, can't remember exactly but it's something like £1.95pm for the first 3 months then £4.95 I think? Ridiculously cheap!

The switching process was fine and I've kept my number.

User27563 · 26/05/2025 23:23

Lebara uses Vodafone and eu roaming is included too
