Vascular surgery for venous insufficiency- anyone had this?

Been waiting for the op a long time. My health is better now - no varicose eczema or oedema for two years so wondering if I should still go ahead.

The op carries 1in100 chance of DVT and 1in50 chance of being left with nerve damage.

OTOH, it would be good to feel the issue is resolved for future. Can anyone advise or reassure?

Hi OP
a few questions….
What operation has been suggested ? Is this treatment for deep venous insufficiency or superficial venous insufficiency ?

What are your current symptoms and what symptoms did you have when you were listed for surgery?

Have you ever had a deep vein thrombosis ? Is your weight well controlled?

I’m a vascular surgeon hence asking . Sounds like you are having superficial venous surgery in the private sector in under GA.
It sounds like you have had a reasonable amount of symptoms related to your veins. I would go ahead
I’m not clear about the treatment proposed though. Are they doing minimally invasive treatment to seal the vein form inside and then make little cuts in the veins in calf or are they going to do open surgery ( cut in the groin) plus or minus vein stripping ) and then tiny cuts over the veins .

I would be keener to have the first version . It’s down without GA in the NhS usually.

Thanks so much Olympia, really appreciate your response.

It is NHS. Think it’s quite a big op hence GA. I did have a more light touch op a few years ago.
