My DD (18) and I are coming to Edinburgh this week for an audition for university.

We have Saturday afternoon and all day Sunday to explore.

We've heard it's amazing and we want to see as much as possible to get a feel for DD possibly living there.

We're staying in Livingston and I've been told it's an easy train ride into the centre.

Any suggestions are gratefully received. Thanks.

If you want to get a feel for the place to li e rather than as a tourist, I would wander about. Victoria street into grass market is lovely then up to To cross and walk up to Bruntsfield. Go across the Bruntsfield links then back across the meadows, through newington then back to princess street and down to Leith docks.

Loads of nice places to stop and eat. Great restaurants from cultures across the world.

I studied at Edinbourgh and then lived there for another couple of decades. It’s a great city, small and lots going on. It’s is cold though!

It's the Scottish Institute of Dance, Theatre and Acting she's auditioning for. We're staying in a hotel right next to it.

She has no clue where she'd live to be honest. I imagine the SI will help them with that and put them all together. They don't have accommodation so it will be in Edinburgh.

This place is in the centre of Livingston which is not in or near Edinburgh. It's also not near either of the train stations in Livingston so I would recommend accommodation closer by.
Not sure if it needs to be student accommodation your daughter lives in or not, but Edinburgh, although not a million miles away, is a completely different place to Livingston.
