Sore hands from washing

My hands can get so so so sore from hand washing. I am not washing excessively. Just ordinary hand hygiene - after toilet, food preparations, assisting others toileting, etc. Just normal hand hygiene.

My hands are so sore I am going to cry.

Please help

Is there any hand cream that will help me.

Even some hand creams hurt me.

I would switch to an emollient like dermol or hydromol instead of hand soap, you can then use the same stuff to moisturise afterwards. Hand soap is very drying

Hemp hand cream and other products from the body shop are good and gentle.

What do you wash your hands with? I find it makes a huge difference.

I find bars of soap much better for my hands than handwash so that's all i use at home. I also use the aldi intensive handcream after washing, and if my hands are really dry i use loads of handcream with cotton gloves overnight.

First look at handsoap.

I use Dove Nourishing Silk. Then I either use Nivea Soft normally and in the evening L'Occtaine Shea Butter handcream. It was a gift and really good.

Avoid Carex like the plague. Makes my hands dry to the point of bleeding.

Might be Sodium Laureth Sulphate which is in a lot of bottled soap/handwash. Find one without that or use bar soap esp from a herbal shop or stall. Someone near me uses goats milk in their soap.

If you really feel the need to use soap, use a bar of soap instead of liquid soap.

But for the majority of the time wash your hands with an emollient cream like epiderm or dermol. You can buy big bottles of the stuff from boots or superdrug. I use epiderm cream as a handcream too.

When my hands are really bad I cover them in epiderm ointment (it's thick and greasy and works better than the cream, but is impractical in the daytime) before bed and sleep in cotton gloves

Biovene water mask works great for me, it’s not greasy (I can’t stand greasy feeling on hands) soaks in really fast. Usually put on overnight. I don’t think it’s even meant for hands but it’s great!

My hands used to bleed over winter from handwashing due to my job. At night I would use E45 cream, Vaseline and then put cotton gloves on overnight ( you can buy them in Boots) which really help let the moisturiser sink in.

Make sure that you rinse and gently pat your hands dry really well i find this helps me

I wash my hands a lot and find regular ‘moisturising’ hand washes to be really drying. Light foam washes (like the Method one, or the kids Hipp one in the duck shaped bottle) are much better. O’Keefes working hands balm is incredible too.
