@blandana there are patterns to types of article that give clues about the topic, so once you get used to them you can sort of “read” the probable filler words by length without wasting guesses on them.
eg brackets in the first paragraph with two sets of three words separated by a dash means a person who is now dead.
If the brackets have a seven letter word, then a five, then a colon, it’s something with an Ancient Greek translation so might well be science or philosophy related.

Hi @blandana 👋

i think I’ve only surprised myself a couple of times, I’m mainly rubbish. I will probably never manage greatness twice in a row. My main problem seems to be not paying attention to how many letters are in the target word. This can prove to be very annoying and wastes a lot of tIme 😁

blandana · 15/06/2025 23:00

So what are your strategies?
mine is usually the same: go through each main topic (history, science, art, space etc) and then go through all the common words the, to, in etc.

InMySpareTime · 16/06/2025 07:23

@blandanaif the formatting has odd mathematical characters like superscript I look at word lengths for things like calculus or algebra.
If it’s a person I get the date and google from that.
If it’s a country I narrow down with east or west and look for population clues from commas in formatting. A small place would have word lengths like “1 10 2 2,3 6” whereas a larger place would have “1 10 2 2 7 6” but the 2 and 7 would be stuck together.
things like centuries are easy to spot in the formatting as they are a pair of 2s stuck together then a 7 and help narrow down the date of historic events.
5 3 2 is often World War II, you get a feel for where that’s likely to show up in the formatting.
You can tell bold and italic word from the word length indicators if you click the blank word.
I usually try to “read” the word lengths before making a guess.
