Are you in touch with your feelings, and how do you know this?

A trusted friend of mine just said I am not really in touch with my feelings, after I couldn't label a feeling more than "annoyed". I know she is right.

How do you know you are in touch with your feelings?

What does it mean exactly is my first thought.

Does it mean, you know exactly what you are feeling and why and can find the language to express that.

Or does it mean, you express your emotions and feelings to others?

You can understand all of it and not necessarily express it.

I'd say most, the huge majority think they understand and are in touch with their TRUE feelings, but they aren't in truth.

There you go, just to mix it up a bit 😆.

I think so but this is some years after a complete mental breakdown

Now, if i feel upset, anxious, stressed, I can name the feeling and trace the trigger - I think that this is a huge achievement for me

Have you looked into therapy? I wouldn't recommend having a breakdown aha but maybe the next time you're feeling upset/angry or elated, I'd stop and really feel it and try to find the trigger x

Edit - maybe keep notes in your notes app on your phone of your feelings throughout the day. Or maybe just of the things that have happened

It sounds a bit much 😭😭 especially if you're otherwise happy, but could help you achieve 'mindfulness'

Thanks these are really helpful replies. It is about knowing the feeling, I don't have issues with expressing my thoughts 😁

I will try to label things. I think I avoid difficult feelings. Perhaps haven't grieved for my fathers death.

I am considering getting some counselling.
