Communication improvements

I sometimes struggle to articulate my thoughts in a concise and coherent way. I am better in writing than I am verbally but in both I can waffle and repeat myself. I think this is a lack of confidence but I also suspect I have undiagnosed ASD.

Are there any apps or programmes I can use to practise communicating in a concise and clear way to support me doing this at work?

Thanks for any ideas.

I don't know of any particular apps or programmes, but I would suggest slowing down your speech and thinking a bit more about what you want to say before you say it. This might not be an issue for you but may be worth considering.

PPT can now apparently evaluate your presentation

more generally

More people practice than you realise - even rehearsing once will improve whatever you are communicating wildly

Also use the rule of three - most people forget if you don’t get all the way through - but it sounds much more structured to say “well, there are three things on that … 1 …” and it gives you time to think

The other advice I have is say way less. Most people give way too detailed answers to questions - it feels (for the person asking the q) much better if you give the briefest possible first reply, and ask if that addresses the Q - most people feel obliged to say everything they know

Try writing things in bullet points. I used them to make my written communication more concise and now use them when thinking to frame my thoughts when I speak

AI programmes might be better for you. If you have Office 365 or Windows, then Copilot might be worth a go. I have it on my phone - simply say what I want and it generates it for me. Good for written communications.

Thanks. It's the verbal side I find much harder.
