How interactive is the London science museum.

In my youth I visited the science museum in London and remember it being really interactive and was planning on taking my 9 year old on our visit to London (we live the other side of the country). When I went to book tickets there was lots of add on experiences such as the wonderlab. I was hoping someone local to the area would be able to say how interactive/exciting it would be for a 9 year old without the extra cost or whether we need to book an experience to make it more hands on rather than looking at displays.

I would absolutely book the wonderlab. There is a bit on the human body that has some computer type games which they would also like and the pattern pod for little ones, but the wonderlab is far and away the most fun and interactive part.

I would personally book the Wonderlab if you want interactive. The rest of the museum is very interesting but I don’t recall much that was interactive apart from a welding experience!

Agree with the above. Wonderlab is fantastic. We have spent many many hours with our kids there. Also the Pattern Pod bit and the garden (which isn’t a garden).

There is a fair amount, but the Home gallery is currently shut. The Space gallery is mostly unchanged since the 90s and has hands on sstuff as well as plenty to look at - still my favourite bit. There's a gallery about people/DNA/genetics with lots of screens with different experiments/tests/games - lots of fun.

My 6YO loves the pattern gallery but it might be a little young for a 9YO, and the area in the basement (garden?) will mostly be too young - aimed at U5s I think. The technician gallery has hands on things but mostly screens. There are more...

There’s also a gaming experience thing that you need to book but the kids seem to love it.
