Does this look like a bedbug?

Nobody has been bit by anything so I’m hoping I’m over reacting, but does this look like a bedbug? I found it on the bed. It was a greyish colour and small. If it’s not a bedbug, any ideas what it might be?

Thanks!

You need to post a clearer photo - it's blurred . . .

Maybe but that's hard to tell from the picture. Although the shake and the little dark bit in the middle does make me think bed bug

This is it zoomed in on the same photo.

It's unclear!

I haven’t got any further photos because I squashed it.
It wasn’t beetle-like in shape. It didn’t have the roundness, it was more long, similar to an ant, but just body and head with antennae.

Yes, looks like it. Make sure you don't unpack your stuff when you get home, bag it up, treat it etc. Everything.

Lindy2 · 17/03/2025 10:16

It's the right sort of shape.

Usually bedbugs are a distinctive mahogany colour though. They look like apple pips. Their segments are also very defined where they have little lines across their bodies.

It's hard to tell from the photo though. Where was it? Home, hotel?

BloodyHateBugs · 17/03/2025 10:17

In my bed!

This is what I thought. This thing was like a dark grey, almost translucent up close. But I can’t think what else would be in a bed. Are they grey if they haven’t been fed?

Possibly a bed bug nymph.

BloodyHateBugs · 17/03/2025 10:28

Has anyone had bedbugs? It doesn’t look like the Google search I’ve done of them, because they look very round and this thing wasn’t.
We put it through identifier apps. 2 picked it up. 1 said headlouse and the other said book louse, but it didn’t really look like them either when we Google searched them.

Would there be more of them if it was a bed bug?
i’ve looked all over the bed and I can’t see anymore.
I feel sick.

They usually like to hide in cracks and crevices during the day so make sure you have checked all the mattress seams, and cracks in headboards and around any sockets near the bed.
If you find lots of little black specks then you might have a problem.

Mielikki · 17/03/2025 10:45

Bed bug nymphs (babies) do look like what you have posted, but if you haven't actually had any bites then it's unlikely to be a bed bug. Book louse would be most likely if you haven't actually had any bites. They are harmless but can be an indicator of damp.

I think it looks like one :( They look darker and more rounded when they've fed.

Speck as in marks on the sheet or something physical that could be picked up?

The room is a bit damp (needs a new window), so it wouldn’t be impossible.

I think it’s a booklouse and not a bedbug. They are similar but if you look up booklouse you will see that it’s the same. (I’m not promising Im right )

I’ve looked at a few more photos of a book louse and actually it did look more like that - the shape and the translucent sort of colour.
Its the ant-like shape that it had and the right colour.
I really hope that is all that it is!
