Ditto to the soup, but with buttered toast.

murasaki · 16/03/2025 22:52

Also hot ribena, but it's not as good since they took the sugar out.

Orange cinnamon toast

Please explain, as it sounds gorgeous!

dontforgetme · 16/03/2025 22:55

@BadgeronaMoped oh yes, proper comfort food that is! Delicious.

Punishmentforthis · 16/03/2025 22:56

As children we were given hot lemon squash or lucozade and orange segments with sugar on them. No idea about nutrition in those days!

LUBAR · 16/03/2025 23:12

Nothing beats a Singaporean laksa.

Raquelos · 16/03/2025 23:24

Charlie Bigham's macaroni cheese. It's such great comfort food, but hardly healthy! I can usually resist but if I'm poorly and feeling sorry for myself I lose the battle and cave 🙂 (it's always so good too).

PleaseDontFingerMyPouffe · 16/03/2025 23:25

I always crave the coldness & sweetness of ice cream

RobertaFirmino · 16/03/2025 23:34

Chicken vindaloo. Works a treat.

TheShadowOfTheWizard · 16/03/2025 23:50

Veggie broth soup made northern Irish style, with buttered wheaten. Or a Tayto crisp sandwich. Lots of tea. Heaps of tea. And water.

@murasaki - Orange cinnamon toast is something my mum used to make for us when we were kids and not well. You get toast, butter it, add orange slices, sprinkle with sugar and cinnamon and grill until the sugar melts.

If I make it now, my husband will automatically ask me if I'm not feeling well!

Curry. And maybe a hot toddy. Or just warm lemon squash.

LeaveALittleNote · 17/03/2025 11:02

Jewish chicken broth was my favourite childhood food when I was ill.
Any clear soup is nice, especially something with chilli and garlic.
If I’m too unwell to cook, one of those tubs of Itsu noodles is the most delicious thing.

ladymammalade · 17/03/2025 11:13

I make an anti inflammatory “super soup” with garlic, turmeric, ginger, bone in chicken and pearl barley and keep it in the freezer for when I feel a cold coming. I also do a roast tomato/red pepper and chilli one.

IamEarthymama · 17/03/2025 14:16

A big pot of vegetable and lentil stew.
Potatoes, carrots, parsnips, leeks, onions and garlic, red lentils and bouillon.
GF dumplings made with butter not suet if I’m feeling a bit better.

its funny you should ask as that’s on the menu today; I woke up feeling awful and have slept most of the day.

all I’m going to do is walk the dog, eat that stew and go back to bed!

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 17/03/2025 18:21

I intend to cycle through all of these as I recover from this cold

JeanGenieJean · 17/03/2025 22:46

Tomato soup (homemade tomato and lentil if I can be bothered, otherwise Heinz) with soft white bread. Lemon and ginger tea.

DilemmaDelilah · 18/03/2025 11:06

Tuna macaroni. Pringles and Coca-Cola
