Is there any unusual small and practical thing the person you live with does that you miss so much when they are away?

I am the least fussy eater I have ever met, but I am ridiculously sensitive to milk that is even very slightly “on the turn”. My dp will always taste the milk for me and reassure me it’s OK before it goes in my tea. I have to risk it when he’s away!

Crane-fly removal.

I love spiders. I've dealt with house mice. Centipedes hold no fear for me. Wasps aren't my favourite but I cope. Bees have never caused me a problem.

Crane flies reduce me to a wobbly pile of panicky helplessness. No idea why.

One thithered its leg across my EYEBALL once. It's like they head for me (in a roundabout, drunken, unpredictable way, of course) with malicious glee, or whatever passes for it in a crane fly. Yes, I know they're harmless to humans, but try telling my brain that, when they're flailing about contaminating every surface they thunk stupidly into.

My husband goes away for work quite a bit, but usually in one big chunk of 4 - 6 weeks per year. I actually look forward to these Grin, but he is so much better than me at tidying as you go. So he doesn't do more housework than me, certainly not more cooking or laundry, but he picks things up and puts them away and I don't know how he does it - but the house definitely gets untidier when he's not here. He's also 14" taller than me and can change light bulbs without getting a chair or steps out. Oh, and open difficult jars.

Takes the bins out. took ownership of the job when I was pregnant and then just carried on. It makes such a difference.

Brings up a glass of water for me when they go to bed - always later than me and I'm.usually asleep. But I always wake about 4am and it's nice to have a sip of water before resettling myself.

I'm also sensitive to off milk, but i just smell it first. Any reason you can't do that?

CurlewKate · 16/03/2025 20:44

@icelolly12Because it can smell OK but not taste OK to me. I did say it was ridiculous!

My husband strokes my hair, head in bed every night whilst I fall asleep. When he’s away with work it takes me ages to get to sleep 😴
