Cat owners, how do you get cat hair off your clothes?

We have adopted two rescue cats. They are both very affectionate, always wanting cuddles which is lovely but my god, the hair!! It's everywhere! I can get it off furniture easily enough with the attachment on the hoover but how the hell do you get it off your clothes?? I'm permanently covered in hair and so are the DC.

I've tried a lint roller which helps a bit but not massively, and I keep thinking there must be a better solution than this.

Happy to throw money at the problem if anyone knows of a gadget for getting pet hair off clothing, probably more economical than constantly replacing lint rollers anyway!

Have a dedicated jumper for wearing when handling the cats. Don't touch them whilst wearing work clothes/school uniform.

Chose your clothes with care.

Mid to light blue jeans and gym leggings only.

Never brushed cotton and if you must wear black work type trousers, put them on and leave the house immediately.

Buy a velvet type tailors brush - e.g "Oxo Furlifter" on Amazon is brilliant.

Finally, accept you are now a hairy hubbert....

How long have you had them? I only ask as when we rescued one of ours he shed so much fur that I was hoovering every day; I think it was because we fed him better quality food than what he had previously as his fur became so much softer but for a few weeks there was so much cat hair I was hoovering every day

Not very helpful but we make sure we don’t get cats that are prone to moulting precisely because of this! So we’ve had shorhaired tabbies and black cats.

Well you know the rules op - we need pictures before we can possibly advise!

I like it! If I spot someone with cat hair on them it makes me smile inside because I
Know they have a furry little beast at home too.

Parcel tape!

I avoid fabrics which attract and hold fur, and brush it off as best I can and accept that I'll always have some cat hair on me somewhere.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 16/03/2025 10:57

Wrap some wide sticky tape, e.g. parcel tape, round your hand, press to the garment. That worked well for me (black and white cat).

I use lint rollers, and also avoid the worst textures/colours of clothing which pick up and show cat fur. Or if I decide to wear the type of clothes which do pick up fur, I change clothes five minutes before leaving the house.

I also brush the cats at least once a week with a rubber grooming brush (they love it) to remove as much loose fur as possible. With warmer weather arriving they will begin to moult hugely, it's less bad other times of year.

I have 3 feeling friends and just go with the hairy look, as a PP mentioned I often get asked about them by other cat slaves.

Sugarfish · 16/03/2025 12:32

Probably not what you want to hear, but I’ve just accepted I will always have some cat hair on me now. I always keep a lint roller on me and give myself a once over when I get to work, but it never removes it all. It’s just hair, it’s not the end of the world.

This.

Also - brush your cats regularly. If you brush them well you’ll get most of their loose hairs out that way before they get all over the place.
