Advise needed on best way to pack house for moving

I'm hopefully moving house in 2-3 weeks if we exchange contracts this week. I've been sorting through everything in the house, have already cleared the loft, shed and garden and have started packing in the house but don't feel like I'm making much progress.

My friend has dismantled some of the furniture for me and I've got a skip so am chucking out anything that I don't need/is broken as I go.

Would you work room by room, start with easier things first? Harder items, or worst room first? I feel like I'm drowning in chaos and boxes!

I moved 3 times in 4 years and each time I decluttered ruthlessly, even more the next time. And yet still I've got too much stuff.

I did my own packing by packing everything we didn't need first. I didn't buy anymore groceries and used things up like candles.

It's a long process but doing any packing is better than doing none.

I packed an essentials box, important paperwork and a suitcase with clothing etc to see us through a couple of nights. These and the cat came in the car with me. As you are moving temporarily you could do that first perhaps? Or even take them over to your temporary place so it's there?

I paid for movers who were brilliant. We were moved in an hour or two.

I also recommend the packing service. I moved into storage and then they delivered everything when the new house purchase was ready. They turned up at 9am one day and the whole house was packed up in boxes by 4pm. I hadn't done anything apart from chuck some stuff out beforehand. I even went out and left them to it. It was amazing!

Number your boxes and take a picture of the contents inside.

Thanks for all the suggestions. It sounds as though getting the removal firm to pack may be the way to go depending on price. I will ask the firm that I'm pencilled in with for a price for packing

By the way Kraft paper tape by kite is the best tape.

As I recall, in the overall cost of things, paying for the removal firm to pack was only a few hundred more and it was fantastic- they packed the whole (three bed) house in a day.

But keep aside anything you need, in fact put it in your car/take it to new temporary accommodation. When they left I found they had even packed the teabags and biscuits!

Have a friend or relative come round for a box building party. Honestly, I found assembling and taping boxes together took longer than the packing!
Start with the non-necessities. Books etc. End with the kitchen and bathroom.
You've got enough time with 2-3 weeks, but you do need to crack on. Try and do a couple of hours every day. I did the bulk of mine in the evenings, and pulled a few late nights.

Unfortunately the quote for packing from the removal firm I'm using was a lot. I think they are so busy with everyone trying to move before the stamp duty increases that they have pushed their prices up and I can't afford it unfortunately. I manage to pack a lot of things yesterday, I'm trying to get at least 5 boxes packed each evening and then the weekend I will do nothing but pack.
