Tell me about your pilates stories

I have just recently started pilates(tough) and 10k steps as I want to tone up and loose 6-7 lbs weight. I don't smoke or drink and currently trying to eat whole foods in calorie deficit. My main goal is to feel good about my body and taking care of it in long term as I have flexibility issues and very stiff back with lots of clicks and pops. I want to know how pilates changed your body and health ? and how often do you do it ? Tell me your story.

Good for you. Keep going. I only do Pilates a few times a week - for me yoga is what works. I do it at least 5 times a week and it changed my life. Good luck

I've been doing Pilates for about three years. It's great for balance and flexibility. I am stuck for time at the moment and had to choose between weights and Pilates so chose weights as I get more overall benefits from them, but I was sad to have to choose as Pilates is excellent.

I love reformer pilates, it’s the only exercise i’ve ever stuck to consistently. I go twice a week, would love to go more but work gets in the way sadly.

I think it’s a great overall workout, and also good for balance and coordination. I have to say unfortunately it doesn’t mean I’ve lost loads of weight, mostly just built some muscle and lost an inch or two.

I started doing Pilates regularly about 6 months ago. I absolutely love it because I’m concentrating so hard to get every part of my body in the right place that the hour flies past and there is no room for anything else to happen in my brain! My balance has improved and a pulled glute muscle has healed (also do a kettlebell class, which might have helped). Core strength has improved, as would be expected. I need to take a leaf out of your book and add some walks into my fitness regime. I haven’t gained any weight, but I haven’t lost any either. I eat healthily.

I've been doing Pilates on and off for years. When I am going regularly it makes a huge difference to my back and I can really tell when I stop doing it. I've been going once a week to a very good teacher for about 3 years now - and a week off is noticeable. I've got an amazing core now, can plank for 3 minutes (I'm in my 50s). If I had time I'd do it twice a week but what I do is a few of the exercises off an on.

I've also started weights - do that 2 to 3 times a week and that has made a difference to my back too. I'm careful with how heavy I'm lifting and don't do some of the kettle bell swings etc and do an alternative instead.

But for posture, back pain etc - the pilates and moving more, making sure I'm walking every day and not sitting continuously at a desk - have made a huge difference.

I'm sure yoga is similar but I get bored of downward dogs and an averse to omming.
