Inherited a business - need help on running it

I have suddenly and unexpectedly inherited my family business.

I’ve worked alongside a relative for over 30 years in running this business, but at the end of the day they knew business and I did as they asked.

The actual running of the day-to-day business I’m quite able to deal with, but there’s odds and ends of questions that now keep popping up that I don’t know the answers to due to lots of government changes of rules regarding our type of business.

Does anyone know if there’s some sort of website with a chat forum that I can ask business type questions on please?

thanks

I'd say you need something more official than a chat site - I'd look into a professional consultant / coach / mentor for a few months until you feel more confident.

Are you able to give any details of the type / size / structure of the business?? Employees / offices / assets / what do you sell / markets / international trade / clients??

Or your local council may have a free business advice service. Or you could join your Chamber of Commerce.

Thank you, unfortunately, identifying the business I suspect would be highly outing and I don’t want those I work with knowing my secret fears.

I will look into a business mentor and the chamber of Commerce

Thank you very much

If you have a 'peer board' network they've been great for me - Peer2Peer but there arr others.

8-12 business owners from all walks of life / business who meet monthly to share challenges / advice / learn new business skills.

It's the same people every month so they get to know your business so the advice is really helpful. Much cheaper and more helpful than an actual business coach.

You must have a company accountant, they will be able to answer lots of questions and if not they will be able to point you in the right direction.

I do but they can take up to a week to reply and I’m looking for answers quicker than that.
