I’ve been selected for jury service (which I’m quite looking forward to) but I’m a bit confused about travel expenses. I have to go to central London and this “commute” will mean a bus to the station, train to London, bus or tube to the court. In order to claim travel expenses I have to “present daily tickets”. All London buses are contactless - you tap your credit card when you get on. There is no such thing as a bus ticket on London buses. The trains are also contactless - the ticket office at my nearest station closed and again, you tap your card at the beginning and end of each journey. This then shows on my (online only no paper) credit card statement as “TFL Travel Charge”.
I called the helpline and they just kept saying “you have to get and send in your daily tickets”.
Has anyone done jury service in London and claimed travel expenses after using contactless payment? I can (just about) stomach losing the difference between my actual earnings and the £32 to £65 but I don’t fancy coughing up £10 per day travel on top!
