My dd 19 is a student child nurse and has been inspired by a parent and child talk at her university yesterday from a family whose child had a lot of urgent admissions to hospital. This mam said one of the things missing that would help their stay be more comfortable in awful circumstances was having access to like an emergency care pack to include such things like socks toothbrush shower gel etc

My dd has now taken it upon herself to try organise to get something like this in her local NHS trust.

I have a couple of questions for you lovely ladies

• What do you think needs to be in these "packs"
• Any one got any experience of doing something similar
• Any ideas for fundraising to start us off

Thanks in advance for your help

As a parent with a child who has had regular hospital stays (and has spent this week in hospital) I tend to have a go bag as I don't expect hospitals to provide things.

My bag is:
Bottles of water
Snacks- chocolate, biscuits, crisps
Change of pants and socks + pjs for child. If we suspect it'll be an extended visit, spare clothes for parent and child
Deodorant
Toothpaste+toothbrush
Perfume (sometimes it's nice to mask the hospital smell)
Contact lens spares/case and solution/glasses
Scarf/shawl that can double as an extra blanket
Ear plugs
Ear phones
Eye mask
Chargers and battery packs
Wet wipes
Book
Used to have some cash but most hospitals/car parks etc are card now.
Any medication- for hospital its helpful for hospital to have a supply (no waiting on pharmacy) for parent means you dont worry about it

We took items in for DS and DIL whilst they were in caring for a premie.
DIL was especially pleased to have the handcream as the constant handwashing and sanitizer took its toll on her hands.
