Thinking about setting up a business as a wedding planner. Is starting a business in these times a good idea?

All thoughts welcome.

People are always going to get married , I suppose it's how big the weddings are going to be.

what is the competition like in your area? what can you offer that is unique?

What experience do you have in event management and what can you offer?
I contacted 2 when getting married.

I only had a few requests- a lift for elderly relatives and an outdoor patio area because DH smoked at the time.

Both planners recommended places I had already discounted and seen for myself- due to there being no lift and multiple stairs and another venue with no outdoor patio/balcony etc.

I concluded that the planners must have had kick back from the venues for recommending them! I the end, I did my own research. There is a place for someone with no time to do so, but depends on the demand, your fees and how well you know various venues.

@notatinydancer that's true people will always get married.

@parietal I would be the second one in my area. The area is huge. The unique question is a good one. Of the top of my head, unlimited contact, I would organise everything and budget. I would also offer different packages and prices.

@Darkclothes I do have a little experience and many transferable skills. Sorry you had that experience surely the point of a wedding planner is that they get you what you want.

I've spent a few weeks thinking it over and having a look. There does seem to be a demand because the other planner is busy. Would need to look into price structure, thinking about offering deals to first clients.

If there’s already demand and only one other planner in a big area, that’s promising. Your angle could be making the whole thing feel less overwhelming, like, actually listening to people and not just recycling venue deals. One thing to think about early: how will people find you? This SEO guide is for doctors, but the tactics work for any local service business, good intro to getting seen without having to pay for ads.
