Tiny celebration - passed my driving test!

I passed my driving test today! I’m ecstatic.

Not a lot of people knew I was even learning. I guess I was a bit embarrassed about not having learned before: I’m in my mid 30s, but until very recently I always lived in large cities and places with good public transport, so never needed to drive. I take the train to work and will continue to do so.

So this thread is just my little celebration to myself 😁

It did NOT come naturally to me. I needed a lot more lessons that is the average. But I passed the practical today on my first attempt. And I could have cried when the examiner said I’d passed.

Yay!

Whoop whoop! Well done OP!

Aw well done! I also learned mid thirties and recently passed my test - it took me four attempts but I got there. You should really celebrate this, it's a major achievement

Now the real learning begins. I've been going out on my own for a couple of weeks now, just remember you will still make mistakes at first and it's ok - just try to focus on being safe. And if experienced drivers beep at you for needing more time to assess situations then they can bugger off, ignore them!

Well done you

Well done, it’s fantastic to be able to drive. Congratulations! I also passed (2nd attempt) in my mid 30s while heavily pregnant.

Congratulations! Passing your test - especially on your first time trying - is a fantastic achievement, well done.

I passed my test well over 30 years ago and still sometimes get that lovely feeling of self-satisfaction. It's a great skill to have.

Happy driving!

Not a tiny celebration, a big celebration! Tell everyone, shout it from the rooftops. Congratulations!

mumofoneAlonebutokay · 11/03/2025 17:06

Well done! You're gonna feel so free now you're a driver 🙌🥰

Eyerollexpert · 11/03/2025 17:08

Amazing, welcome to the madness that is driving on Britain's roads😂

Sinkintotheswamp · 11/03/2025 17:10

That's a big celebration! Well done.

Thanks everyone 😘

Still buzzing this evening. And I know that there’s still lots of learning to come. Will probably take DH out with me for some initial drives. But it feels great to know I can just get in the car & go if needed/wanted…

Well done OP! I passed in my 30s and found it very difficult too and it truly is life changing! Massive congratulations 🚗 beep beep!

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 11/03/2025 22:12

Oh massive congratulations, @user1499609760. It's often the most cautious learners who become the best drivers, ime.

Yay well done! I was in the same position, always lived in places with excellent transport links, but then 2 years ago we moved to the middle of nowhere with no public transport and with 2 kids it was impossible!!
I passed first time just before Christmas (in an automatic though- didn’t even try manual as I wanted it as easy as possible!) and I’m early 30’s!
I didn’t tell very many people either that I was taking the test and I found it quite embarrassing/infantilising to let people know I couldn’t drive if it ever came up.
The freedom now is incredible! I was so nervous for the first few weeks out on my own in sole control of a car, but now I’ve settled down a bit and can start enjoying it more.
Try and get out and drive as much as you can now, otherwise it gets harder if you leave it even a few days and the nerves build up!

That's amazing, driving is life changing. I still remember my Mum, newly divorced, passing when I was in infant school and my teacher sent her a gold star home Star

user1499609760 · 12/03/2025 09:05

@Rayna37 I love that story!

Congrats!! I passed in December last year and the freedom from just being able to get in the car, not have to plan public transport etc has been life changing for me.

OpalSpirit · 12/03/2025 09:10

Not tiny! Massive celebration! Congratulations 🥳

Theseventhmagpie · 12/03/2025 09:12

Really well done OP!! You absolutely deserve to celebrate, getting your driving license is life changing.
Well done you 👍👍
