If you were cutting your hours in work, what days would you work

I'm contemplating reducing my working hours down to 4 days a week. Problem is I can't decide the best day to take off?! Automatically I thought Friday but I'm now unsure if maybe a Wednesday would break the week up better?

What would you think?

I do a half day on Wednesday and I love it! Can't recommend that mid week break highly enough personally.

I initially asked for Thursdays off, but to fit with colleagues had to have Fridays instead, and actually it works really well.
I get a good three day break from work and the kids don't have to go to after school club on Fridays when they are already tired.
I also used to get home late Friday or be too tired to do much in the evening, but no more!!

@blueshoes you are forgetting to add the bank hol allowance on to your full time calculation, in your case the full time person gets 20 days holiday plus eight bank holidays.

in response to the op, I would take a Wednesday, you never have to do more than two consecutive days and it would break the week up a bit!

I used to have Thursdays off.

Then I switched to Fridays.

Now I have Wednesdays.

When you're off on a Monday or Friday, it just blurs into the weekend and gets spent doing chores etc.

A day off in the week feels like an actual day off.

I like my Wednesday off. I work 2 days either side, it allows me to catch up on anything left from mon/tues and it means my kids don't go too long without a day with me doing school run etc.

Depends on childrens ages, how you spend weekends, etc!
I'd want a Friday if it meant I could have weekends away. But due to family commitments that wouldn't happen, so I stead I don't work Wednesday. It really breaks up the cheek- only working 2 days at a stretch is amazing!

@dementedpixie sorry to derail OP's thread but I don't know if you remember the advice you gave me back in 2021 about my colleague having Monday bank holidays off in addition to her annual leave? Well 4 years have elapsed and now work have acknowledged I was right with your help, that she should not have had them. As a result work are going to pay me for the additional days she had off. I'll probably get that in another 4 years time! Going forward we have 4 days pro rata bank holidays a year and because 5 bank holidays are on her working days she has to work an extra day. My allowance and bank holidays this year are 4.

So once again thank you.

I work Tuesday to Friday as I like the flexibility that Bank Holidays give me

I used to have Thursdays off and then always found Fridays a bit tedious. I now have Mondays off and love it! Mondays are always rushed and miserable at my place… by Tuesday everyone seems in a much better mood.

I used to take Fridays off, which was better for my team. I also had more mum friends around to meet up with on Fridays.

But I was exhausted come Friday, as was my daughter from four days at nursery. We now have Wednesdays off which is definitely working better for her, and I feel less anxious knowing I can deal with whatever’s building up on Thursday.
